Football
Wawasee at Tippecanoe Valley
Tippecanoe Valley opened up the 2024 season with a statement victory Friday night, defeating Wawasee 44-0 at home. The Vikings begin the season at 1-0 while the Warriors start 0-1.
Wes Parker was the leader for the home side offensively, rushing for 149 yards and three touchdowns on just four carries. Grady Moriarty ran for 26 yards, while Brock Derf had a touchdown run and 20 yards. Quarterback Jamison Phillps threw for 47 yards, all to Owen Omondi. No statistics were available for Wawasee.
Tippy Valley hosts rival Rochester in the Bell Game next Friday while Wawasee will look to get in the win column at home against West Noble.
LaVille at Triton
Triton began the 2024 campaign with a big victory Friday night, defeating LaVille 27-6 at home. The Trojans begin the year at 1-0.
Jayden Overmyer had a big game running the ball, rushing for 132 yards and two touchdowns with a long of 52. He also returned a punt 40 yards for a score. Vinnie Prater ran for 88 yards. Quarterback Ben McFarland went 1-1 passing with a 46-yard touchdown pass to Dante Workman.
Triton is on the road at Bremen this week.
Northwestern at Manchester
Manchester was on the losing end of a tight game Friday night, falling 19-14 at home to Northwestern. The Squires start the year at 0-1.
Manchester is at home against Bluffton Friday night.
Prairie Heights at Whitko
It was a tough opening game for Whitko Saturday night, as the Wildcats fell 56-14 at home to Prairie Heights. Whitko starts the campaign at 0-1.
Quarterback Crew Ebbinghouse completed two passes for 115 yards, including a 75-yard touchdown to Riley Harman. Trevor Freel ran for a score on the ground to go with 57 rushing yards, a team high. The Wildcats had trouble hanging on the football during the game, committing five fumbles.
Whitko is at home Friday night for its first Three Rivers Conference game against Peru.
Volleyball
Warsaw at Carmel Round Robin
Warsaw split a pair of games at the Carmel Round Robin Saturday afternoon, defeating host school Carmel 3-1 (27-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-17) before falling 3-1 (23-25, 22-25, 25-19, 19-25) to Providence. The split keeps Warsaw at .500 this season, putting their record at 3-3.
Maggie Hollon had 17 kills in the first game and 18 in the second. Avary Hoeppner combined for 40 assists acorss the two contests. Ellie Hepler had 17 and 16 digs.
The Lady Tigers are on the road Monday night against Homestead.
Boys Soccer
Manchester at NorthWood Invitational
Manchester was unable to come away with a win while competing at the NorthWood Invitational Saturday, tying Merrillville 0-0 before losing 5-3 to NorthWood. The Squires are now 2-1-1 this fall.
Evan McLaughin made 18 saves in net to earn the clean sheet in the first game. Against NorthWood, Wyatt Schroll, Isaiah Acosta and Marinus Stein each scored a goal, while McLaughin had 13 saves in the loss.
Manchester is on the road at Norwell Monday night.
Lakeland Christian at Bethany Christian
Lakeland Christian was unable to come away with a victory against a very good Bethany Christian side Saturday night, falling 3-1 on the road. The Cougars are now 1-2 this season, 1-1 in the Hoosier Plains Conference.
The lone LCA goal came off the boot of Jashawn Zielasko, assisted by Allie Calizo in the 70th minute. Braden Weirick made 12 saves in net.
The Cougars will stay on the road for Tuesday night’s game against Lakewood Park Christian.
Girls Soccer
Hanover Central at Warsaw
Warsaw girls soccer picked up their first win of the season Saturday afternoon, defeating Hanover Central 3-2 at home. The Lady Tigers are now 1-1 this fall.
Haidyn Elliott opened up the scoring, while Amy Escutia and Lola Pepper each added a goal as well. Pepper’s goal broke a 2-2 tie and gave Warsaw the win.
The Lady Tigers open up conference play Tuesday evening on the road at Plymouth.
Girls Golf
Warsaw at Warsaw Invitational
Warsaw took fifth place at its home invitational Saturday morning, finishing with a team score of 359. Homestead won the event with a 324, while Carroll and Rochester took second and third with respective scores of 342 and 344.
Abbey Petersen led the team once again with a 74, good enough for second place individually. Sophie Stewart shot a 90 while Claire Reust shot a 96. Addisyn Aylor and Lucy Ray rounded things out by each shooting a 99.
Warsaw will take on Plymouth and Northridge in Middlebury for a conference match Tuesday evening.
