Baseball
Oak Hill at Manchester
Manchester picked up another big win to start the season on Monday, defeating Oak Hill 9-8 at home after scoring five runs in the fourth inning. The Squires are now 6-2-1 this season.
Reiss Gaerte has a massive day at the plate for Manchester, going 3-4 with a double while driving in four runs. Gavin Martin and Ethan Hendrix both drove in two runs while Martin scored three of his own.
The Squires begin Three Rivers Conference play on Wednesday against Maconaquah.
Whitko at West Noble
For the second time this season, a Whitko baseball game resulted in a tie as the Wildcats and West Noble had play stopped with the score at 10-10 on Monday. Whitko is now 3-4-2 this spring.
West Noble scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh to earn a draw. Max Platt struck out seven and gave up two earned runs in five innings of work. Isaiah Cripe went 2-2 with a double and a triple, driving in three runs. Kaden Ciaccia-Long and Easton Grable each had three hits.
The Wildcats will also begin TRC play on Wednesday, hosting North Miami.
Triton at Caston
Triton was unable to secure a victory in its first Hoosier North Athletic Conference game on Monday, falling 13-3 in six innings to Caston. The Trojans are now 2-3 this spring, 0-1 in the HNAC.
Lucas Kaufman had a nice day at the plate, going 3-3 and driving in a run. Drew Bingamon was also able to secure an RBI.
Triton is on the road Thursday at North Miami.
Softball
Warsaw at Wawasee
Wawasee began Northern Lakes Conference play with a big win on Monday, defeating Warsaw 12-2 at home. The Lady Warriors are now 6-1, 1-0 in the NLC, while Warsaw falls to 0-5, 0-1.
Kenadi Pierce had two hits in three at bats and drove in two runs. Abbagail Willey also had two hits and added an RBI. Haylee Allen had 12 strikeouts on the mound, including the 500th of her career. For Warsaw, Addyson Sainer and Nekiana Hamilton each drove in a run.
Both teams are in action Wednesday, with Warsaw hosting Goshen and Wawasee playing at home against Mishawaka.
Culver Community at Tippecanoe Valley
Tippecanoe Valley picked up a massive win on Monday evening, defeating Culver Community 16-1 in five innings. The Lady Vikings are now 3-4 this season.
Dalynne Bussard continued her impressive start to the season by driving in six runs at the plate on two hits, while also scoring twice herself. She was just as dominant on the mound, striking out eleven while giving up just one hit in five innings. Temperance Caudill drove in three more runs while Mackaylie Costello and Addy Dunnuck added two RBIs.
Tippecanoe Valley is off until Monday, when the team faces off against North Miami at home.
Triton at Whitko
Triton emerged victorious in a pitchers duel between two area teams on Monday, defeating Whitko 1-0. The Lady Trojans improve to 3-4 this season while Whitko falls to 1-5.
The game’s only run was driven in by Lena Doll, scoring Mylie Groves. Doll was dominant on the mound in this one, giving up five hits and striking out five in seven innings of work. Cassidy Skinner had two hits for Whitko while also striking out 15 on the mound and giving up three hits.
Whitko faces North Miami at home on Wednesday to begin TRC play while Triton hosts Manchester on Thursday.
