Local High School Sports Recaps For Tuesday, April 9

Baseball
Bluffton at Manchester

Manchester continued a great start to the 2024 season on Tuesday, defeating Bluffton 9-4 at home. The Squires are now 4-1 this season.
Gavin Martin had just one hit, but it was a home run that drove in three. Garrett Sites went 2-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Evan Martynowicz went 2-3 with an RBI while also pitching seven innings and striking out seven.
Manchester is at home against Concord on Saturday.
Triton at Elkhart Christian
Triton picked up its first win of the season in dominant fashion Tuesday evening, defeating Elkhart Christian 12-0 on the road. The Trojans are now 1-2 this spring.
Braxton Kaufman had a huge night for Triton, going 2-3 with a double, two RBIs and two run scores. Kaufman also pitched all five innings, striking out nine and giving up just four hits. Jacob Pitney also had two hits and two runs scored.
The Trojans will stay on the road for Thursday night’s contest against Westville.
Softball
East Noble at Warsaw

Warsaw dropped its first game of the season on Tuesday evening, losing 23-6 to East Noble at home. The Lady Tigers begin the 2024 campaign at 0-1.
Kali Ousley had a great offensive night for Warsaw, going 3-3 with two doubles and two RBIs. Mia Rodriguez had one hit, a double, and scored two runs.
The Lady Tigers are at home against South Bend Riley on Friday night.
Tippecanoe Valley at Mishawaka
Tippecanoe Valley won its second game of the year on the road at Mishawaka Tuesday night, coming away with a 3-2 victory. The Lady Vikings are now 2-2.
Dalynne Bussard went 1-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Mackaylie Costello also had a hit, run driven in and run scored. Bussard got the win on the mound with seven innings pitched, an impressive 15 strikeouts, three hits and no earned runs allowed.
Tippecanoe Valley is on the road at Plymouth on Friday night.
Columbia City at Wawasee
Wawasee tasted defeat for the first time in 2024 on Tuesday night, falling 7-1 to Columbia City at home. The Lady Warriors are now 3-1 this spring.
Natalya Holder went 2-3 with an RBI. She drove in Evelyn Duncan, who also had two hits to go with the run scored. Ava Couture also had a hit for Wawasee. Haylee Allen struck out two in 4.2 innings pitched, giving up two earned runs.
The Lady Warriors are at home against Manchester on Friday night.
Bluffton at Manchester
Manchester was unable to pick up a win on Tuesday night, falling 9-5 to Bluffton at home. The Lady Squires are now 1-3 this season.
Hadley West went 2-4 with two RBIs. Paxton Baker also picked up two hits and added a run scored.
Manchester is on the road at Wawasee on Friday.
Triton at Plymouth
Triton dropped its second game in a row on Tuesday, falling 16-2 to Plymouth on the road. The Lady Trojans are now 2-3 this season.
Triton is at home on Thursday evening against Rochester.
Girls Track and Field
Tippecanoe Valley/Lakeland Christian/North Miami at Whitko
Tippecanoe Valley took home first place in a four-way meet against Whitko, North Miami and Lakeland Christian Tuesday. The Lady Vikings barely beat out the Lady ‘Cats, scoring 48 points to Whitko’s 44.
The standout of the meet was Whitko’s Gwen Howard, who once again broke her own school records in the shot put and discus, taking first place in both events. Emerson Harper took first place in the 100M, 200M and long jump for the Lady ‘Cats. No stats were available for the other teams.
Boys Golf
Northridge/Mishawaka Marian at Warsaw

Warsaw took first place in a three-way meet against Northridge and Mishawaka Marian on Tuesday, scoring 161 as a team to beat the second place Raiders by three strokes.
Robbie Finlinson led the way for the Tigers, shooting a 36. Not far behind him was Austin Criag with a 39 and Breckin Christner with a 42. Finn Bailey shot a 44 and Quinton Fifer had a 47.
Girls Tennis
Rochester at Tippecanoe Valley

Tippecanoe Valley started off the 2024 season with a win on Tuesday, defeating Rochester 4-1 at home to start off the year at 1-0.
No. 2 singles player Ella Sandbakken was dominant in her straight-set victory, winning 6-1, 6-2. Sarah Finney picked up a good win in No. 3 singles, earning a 6-1, 6-3 victory. The No. 2 doubles pairing of Karley Hallstrom and Sienna Holder also won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.
Tippecanoe Valley is at Knox on Thursday.
Triton at North Judson
Triton was dominant in its road match against North Judson on Tuesday night, winning 5-0.
The Lady Trojans handled business quite easily in this one, as no player for Triton dropped a set in the match. No. 1 singles player Danica Kuntz won 6-0, 6-3, No. 2 singles Jenna Bules earned a 6-1, 6-0 win and No. 3 Cheyenne Hawley won 6-0, 6-1. The No. 1 doubles pairing of Kate Howell and Nadi Stetler earned a 6-0, 6-1 win, while the No. 2 pairing of Allie Westafer and Sierra Hawley won 6-0, 6-0.
Triton hosts Rochester on Monday.
