By Staff Report-

Special Olympics athletes from Kosciusko County competed in the Indiana State Games in Terre Haute from June 9-11.  There were 10 bowlers, 12 bocce players and 14 track and field participants involved in the various events along with 3 new athletes, competing for the first time.

The Opening Ceremony, Olympic Town and the Saturday dance, movie and fireworks were activities enjoyed by all.

The Special Olympics Healthy Athletes program provides health related assistance to athletes.  After foot examinations, some athletes received new Billie athletic shoes, courtesy of Finish Line while others received eye examinations and new glasses.

Becky Walls, Kosciusko County coordinator for Special Olympics thanks the coaches and many volunteers that helped make this annual event possible.  It was truly an enriching and fun experience for all.

As a reminder, Special Olympics Kosciusko County will be celebrating its 50th anniversary on August 24th at Tippy Creek Winery in Leesburg from 5-8pm.  There will be food and entertainment.  Entry fee is $5 and food is available for $12, provided by Twisted Tiki Food Truck.

Tickets are available to attend this event and donations are appreciated to help support Special Olympics into the next 50 years.  For details, please contact Becky Walls, county coordinator at [email protected].
