By Staff Report-

Organizers are gearing up for the second Freaky 5K Family Halloween Run/Walk.
The event, which is sponsored by Lutheran Health Network/KCH, is planned for Oct. 29. Proceeds will go to the Cancer Care Fund, which raises money to assist cancer patients in Kosciusko County.
The Cancer Care Fund is unique, says race organizer Ron Smock, because 100 percent of net funds will help cancer patients.
“The K21 Health Foundation administers our fund at no cost, which means more funds go to our friends and neighbors that are in  need,” he said.
Costumes are encouraged for the race, Smock said. “Last year’s race was so much fun ...  People dressed up and had a great time.”
There are several ways for the community to help with the effort: participate in the Oct. 29 run/walk, volunteer to help with the event or make a direct donation to the Cancer Care Fund.
Those who want to participate in the run/walk may pre-register online at:
• the Cancer Care Fund KC Facebook page.
Everyone who pre-registers will get a souvenir T-shirt.
Registration the day of the race begins at 7:30 a.m. at the K21 Health Pavilion, 1515 Provident Court, Warsaw. A brief program is planned for 9 a.m., and the run/walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. The race will be timed by the Kosciusko Runners Association.
To become a volunteer or for more information, contact Smock at [email protected] or 574-453-8588, or Cindy Knafel at [email protected].
