MILFORD - Instead of adding $15,000 to the Milford Park Department budget for a fence around Waubee Lake Park, the Milford town council decided Thursday to try to get the money elsewhere, if they decide to put up a fence.

The park advisory board asked for the additional money for a fence to help raise money to maintain the park and for security reasons. Their 2002 budget, without the money for the fence, will be approximately $23,500.

The council approved $2,590 for the purchase of six new tables for the park. For the five park advisory board members, a stipend totaling $2,500 for 2002 was approved.

Clerk-treasurer Charlotte's Siegfried's salary was approved at $33,000, an increase of approximately $4,400. The council approved an increase of their own wages by $500 apiece.

In anticipation of a not-yet-determined fire department purchase, $5,000 was added to the cumulative capital improvement fund.

Town marshal Dave Hobbs and the town's crossing guard will receive 5 percent salary increases. The two senior deputies' salaries will be increased to $33,250.

An additional appropriation of $21,000 will be sought by the council to help pay for an additional police officer. The officer's annual salary will be $30,000, with actual wages to be determined. For possible overtime pay, $2,500 was approved.

Salaries for utilities commissioner Dallas Winchester and assistant commissioner will increase by 5 percent. The two maintenance employees will have their salaries increased by 7 percent for maintenance employee A and 3 percent for employee B. Overtime pay of $2,500 was approved for both of them, if needed.

The council approved the cumulative funds as presented, including: cumulative sewer, $10,000; local roads and streets, $60,000; cumulative capital development fund, $35,000; police education fund, $1,900; cumulative capital improvement cigarette tax fund, $10,000; economic development income tax fund, $120,000; and cumulative capital improvement tax fund, $30,000.

It was also reported Brooks Construction will reseed grass along Main Street since the sewer-separation project along the street is finished.

Members of the town council are president John Lehman, Douglas Ruch and Robert Phillips. [[In-content Ad]]
