Editor, Times-Union:
This is an open letter to the Tippecanoe Valley varsity boys basketball team and manager:

We hear so many negative things about our youth of today that I wanted to share a very positive moment.

I recently lost my mother after a very long illness. As I come from a large family (four sisters and two brothers), we had a large group of people at the funeral home the evening of the viewing. It was rather noisy, but the room grew still when in walked a group of 13 young men in green and yellow letter jackets. The entire varsity basketball team came to express their sympathy to "Coach" and me. Words cannot express how moved I was by this gesture of kindness and their thoughtfulness. Their parents, school and the entire community can be very proud of these young men. I know we are, and I will never, ever forget their kindness.

Congrats, Tom

Editor, Times-Union:
First, a note of congratulations to Tom on his retirement from the CVSO, and to Mike, for his appointment to the same. Tom did a great job, well more than was called for. I'm sure Mike will follow Tom's lead and do the same. Second, I must say I, personally, am fed up with the blowhard veterans. Example is the recent reminder to all of us about the two bronze stars. I guess I hate this so much because we all know the truth of how they were "earned." Perhaps this veteran could find a way not to blow his own horn, but I doubt it. I've said before that I know a lot of veterans that did a lot more and received a lot less. However, I've never heard them complain. Maybe their not complaining and this veteran's bragging balances it all out.

School Board

Editor, Times-Union:
Maybe we need some new school board members and superintendent. As yet, they have not taken much advice from patrons. They are spending your money. The Atwood and Leesburg schools have more room; move in some portable classrooms. Build no more buildings now. People are still losing jobs.

We are 92 and 93 years old and living past our interest from our CDs. A seven-month CD is down to 2.88 percent.

Basic Values

Editor, Times-Union:
Before the Bush administration expands the war on terrorism with the open-ended blank check use of force resolution adopted by Congress on Sept. 14 as its basis to include other terrorist organizations and their nation-state sponsors, who may or may not have had anything to do with the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Americans should exercise their natural and constitutional rights urging their U.S. representatives and senators to exercise their constitutional duties to declare war or acts of war against any nation, group of nations, any faction(s) of a nation or group of nations, any association(s) of individuals who have attacked or pose a credible threat to the citizens, property and territory of the U.S. This has a firm basis based on the following: Article I, Section 8 and Article II, Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution, Federalist Papers, other documents in U.S. history, along with other traditional principles of freedom and democracy in Western history. Also, if Americans get Congress to perform their constitutional duties, this will prove to the enemies of U.S. that Americans will not abandon their basic values and that our free society can keep functioning as the beacon of freedom that is supposed to be, despite what certain people abroad and here in the United States want to see happen.

Legal System

Editor, Times-Union:
A while back there were several letters to the editor complaining about Judge Duane Huffer. I filed a civil suit against a person, in which the co-defendant was a company where his brother was general manager and also one of the county commissioners. They are related to Aaron Rovenstine, Kosciusko County Sheriff. My hearing was held in Kosciusko County Superior Court I, Judge Huffer. One of the opposing attorneys is the county commissioners' attorney, so I knew I didn't have much of a chance before I went into the hearing.

There are rules the judge and attorneys have to follow. If they don't, there are things we can do. In my opinion, the judge and opposing attorneys in my case violated these rules. If this happens to you, you need to do what I did: (1) Appeal the case; (2) Call the Indiana Supreme Disciplinary Committee, 317-232-3808, or (3) Write the Indiana Commission on Judicial Qualifications, 115 W. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46204. They will investigate and bring charges against the judge or attorneys involved. You would be surprised how far out of focus the justice system is in Kosciusko County. If you are involved with an attorney or a judge, I would check the rights you have and the rules they have to follow. I think you would be surprised at what they are getting away with. It could make a big difference on the final outcome of your case.
