SOUTH WHITLEY - Catherine Marie Katie Norris, 89, of South Whitley, died at 8:30 p.m. Oct. 7, 2010, at the Peabody Home, North Manchester, where she had been a resident since July.

She was born Dec. 14, 1920, in Collamer, to John and Maude Poland Tschantz. On June 26, 1943 she married Merritt Leroy Norris, who died Jan. 9, 2000.

Her formative years were spent in the Collamer area where she attended Collamer grade school until sixth grade, then she attended South Whitley schools, graduating from South Whitley High School in 1940. She was the president of the student council. In addition to being a homemaker, she assisted her husband with his insurance agency that the couple began in 1945. Her memberships included United Methodist Church of South Whitley, where she served for many years on the funeral dinner committee, and enjoyed making decorative pillows for Riley Hospital for Children.

Surviving are three sons: Richard (and spouse Elise) Norris, Indianapolis; and twins, Dennis (and spouse Deb) Norris, South Whitley, and Darrell Norris, Carmel; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty (and spouse Lawrence) Roberts, South Whitley, and Jeannie (and spouse Ralph) Dailey, Huntington. She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church, South Whitley. Burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery.

Calling is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley, and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.
