Bachelor Of The Year?

Is a 1998 Warsaw Community High School graduate sexy enough to be named the Cosmo Bachelor of the Year?

Voters have until Sunday to go online at http://www.cosmopolitan.com and vote for Will Woodward for that honor from Cosmo magazine. He is the Indiana representative for the magazine's contest.

In a telephone interview Wednesday morning, Woodward said his mom submitted his nomination for the bachelor contest. She found out about the competition after watching "Regis and Kelly," said Woodward's sister, Jennifer Woodward Gullette.

"My mom is like a lot of moms. She has a lot of big ideas," Will said.

When he was told she submitted his entry, he said, he dismissed it. He even forgot about it. Then one day out of the blue, Cosmo called.

"It's a little surreal, but it's fun," he said.[[In-content Ad]]Monday, Woodward flies to New York with the other bachelor contestants. The first day and night, the bachelors will get to know the staff at Cosmo. Tuesday is media day, and appearances will include stops on the "Today Show."

Tuesday night, after online voting has narrowed the field down to six, Woodward said, Cosmo will pick their top bachelor of the year. Among the prizes is $10,000.

"I guess it's just like Miss Teen USA for guys," Woodward said of the competition.

A lot of the guys get into the Cosmo contest, he said, but while it's fun, he said he's a little bashful about it.

Anyone who looks at all the bachelors' photos will notice that Woodward's is a little different from the rest.

In early June, Woodward was suppose to fly to New York or Los Angeles for a photo shoot. But prior to leaving, Woodward was riding his bicycle out in the country. While crossing a bridge, going about 25 mph, he bunny-hopped his bicycle. The front wheel flew off, and Woodward "got intimate" with the pavement, he said.

He ended up in the hospital for about a week, with 255 stitches, a shattered collar bone and a broken shoulder blade. He had to cancel his trip for the photo shoot. The doctors were able to patch him up pretty well, but his photo shoot ended up different than every other guy's because of it.

"Now I just have a couple more scars," said Woodward.

Woodward owns his own mining company in Wabash, and a home in Huntington. With his business, the photo shoot and the hospital, Woodward said, "These last four months have been a whirlwind."

But, he said, he's having fun with it all.

"I'd probably never live it down if I win," he said.

But he's not looking to become an actor or anything, he said. He loves Indiana, his business and his life just the way it is.

Gullette, a WCHS 1987 graduate, informed the Times-Union of her younger brother's entry into Cosmo's contest Tuesday.

"I was very surprised to hear he had won. We've known about it for quite some time," Jennifer said in a telephone interview Tuesday afternoon.

She said she found out about Will being in the magazine Monday. She screamed so loud, she said, it was the "scream heard around the world."

Jennifer knows a little bit about "beauty contests." She was Miss Kosciusko in 1989 or 1990 (she couldn't remember the year), and Queen of the Lakes in about 1993.

She also is campaigning for Will to win the Cosmo Bachelor of the Year title. As Jennifer is a political consultant, she said it is something she knows how to do.

"The one thing I'll say about my brother is he's very level-headed and grounded. He's very bashful," Jennifer said.
