Local High School Sports Recaps For Thursday, May 16

Boys Track and Field
Warsaw/Wawasee/Lakeland Christian at Goshen Sectional

For the first time in seven years, Warsaw was able to end a drought and become champions of the Goshen boys track and field sectional Thursday night. The Tigers won with 135 points, Concord came in second with 109.5, while Elkhart took third with 108 points. Wawasee finished the meet with 27 points, while Lakeland Christian had one.
Warsaw had a plethora of top three finishers at the meet. Blake Keene took first place in the 110M hurdles, while Eric Pohl took third. Keene and Pohl also finished first and third in the 300M hurdles. Jackson Gackenheimer won the 3200M race, while Jackson Winey took second in the 400M. Kam Kauffman won both the shot put and the discus, while Jordan Randall won the high jump. Ian Parrott and Matt Marsh took second and third in the pole vault.
The Warriors had one regional qualifier, Brantlee Edwards, who finished in the top three in the shot put to advance. Nobody from Lakeland Christian advanced.
Regionals will be held back at Goshen next Thursday night.
Baseball
Northfield at Manchester

Manchester picked up a massive win on Thursday night, defeating Northfield 16-1 at home in five innings. The Squires are now 19-5-1 this season, 8-1 in the Three Rivers Conference. The win gave Manchester a share of the TRC title.
Garrett Sites had two hits and drove in three runs in the win. Hunter Sturtsman also drove in three runs in the game. Reiss Gaerte scored three runs and hit a home run. Ethan Hendrix also had a hit. Sturtsman struck out eight in five innings of work on the mound.
Manchester has a doubleheader against Central Noble Saturday morning.
Peru at Whitko
Whitko was unable to do much offensively in a loss to Peru Thursday night, falling 12-3 at home. The Wildcats are now 10-10-2 this spring, 5-4 in the TRC.
Riley Harman had three hits in the game and scored a run. Breyden Kirkdorffer, Max Platt and Ethen Morris all had an RBI in the loss.
Whitko is at home Saturday for a doubleheader against Prairie Heights.
Softball
Warsaw at Concord

Warsaw and Concord finished off a rain-delayed game on Thursday, with the Lady Tigers losing 8-4. Warsaw is now 2-20 this season, 2-12 in the Northern Lakes Conference.
Kali Ousley had three hits in the game and scored a run. Emma Keyes had two hits and drove in two runs. Addison Eastwod had a hit, an RBI and a run scored. Eastwood also struck out two in 4.1 innings pitched.
The Lady Tigers begin sectional play Monday against Elkhart.
Tippecanoe Valley at Columbia City
Tippecanoe Valley was on the losing end of a very close pitcher’s duel on Thursday, falling 1-0 to Columbia City. The Lady Vikings are now 8-11 this spring.
No stats were available for Tippy Valley in the game. The Lady Vikings will play Knox Tuesday to begin sectional play.
Northfield at Manchester
Manchester was able to pick up a conference win Thursday evening, defeating Northfield 8-5 at home. The Lady Squires are now 12-10 this spring, 6-3 in the TRC.
Ava Sautter, Hadley West and McKelvey Espeset each drove in two runs in the win. Izzy Renz had three hits and scored two runs. Molly Schannep struck out three in a win on the mound.
Manchester will take on Whitko Monday evening in the sectional opener.
Peru at Whitko
Whitko was on the losing end of a close game against Peru Thursday night, falling 7-5 at home. The Lady ‘Cats are now 6-14 this season, 4-5 n the TRC.
Kaylee Adkins drove in two runs and scored a third. Hope Bradley had a hit and an RBI in the loss. Taylor Long drove in a run and scored a run as well. Cassidy Skinner struck out eight on the mound.
Whitko will take on Norwell at home Saturday morning.
