Grace Golfers Dominate Field At SAU Invite

Grace’s women’s golf team won the Spring Arbor Invitational in impressive fashion on Monday. The Lady Lancers beat out five other Crossroads League teams with a 657, winning the event by 18 strokes at the Eagle Eye Golf Club.

HS Roundup: Lady Squires Win First Golf Sectional Title Since 1973

Waiting an extra two days was worth it for the Manchester Lady Squire golf team. Paced by Karly Eichenauer’s 91, the Lady Squires won the Huntington North Sectional at Norwood Golf Club Monday. The host school was second, four shots back. Southwood also advanced from the sectional, finishing third.

Doris Marian Mitchell

Doris Marian Mitchell, 96, Warsaw, passed away at 9:44 a.m. Sept. 15, 2016, at Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester.  She was born Oct. 28, 1919, in Baltimore, Md., to Adelia Schad and William Short. On March 27, 1942, she was married to Donald Cameron Mitchell, who passed away Oct. 3, 1993.

Sharon Kay Shepherd, 64, North Manchester, died Sept. 16, 2016, at Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester. Arrangements are pending at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw.

Mildred W. Davis

 Mildred W. Davis, 96, Frankfort, died Sept. 16, 2016, at Wesley Manor Health and Retirement Community. She was born Feb. 11, 1920, in Hendrix County, to the late Otis A. and Helen Millikan Ward. On Jan. 17, 1941, in Thorntown Methodist Church, she married Herman Davis, who preceded her in death March 9, 1996.

Grace Lancers’ Kurklin Wins Historic ITA Regional Championship

Grace’s Danila Kurkulin battled through the highly competitive Intercolligate Tennis Association Regional Championship, winning the singles’ crown on Saturday. Kurkulin had to win six matches in the 64-player field, including both the semifinal and final matches on Saturday. He is the first recorded Lancer to win an ITA Regional championship in school history.

HS Roundup: Whitko Takes Wawasee Invitational

Whitko’s volleyball team won the Wawasee Invitational Saturday, beating Bethany Christian, the Mishawaka Christian Athletic Club and Garrett in pool play, and Columbia City for the title. Top performers for the Wildcats were Kaity Reed with 58 kills and eight blocks, Kristina Slater with 46 digs and six aces, and Haley Yohe with 99 assists. The Lady Wildcats didn't drop a set in the tournament. Wawasee results for the tourney were not available as of press time.

Lady Tigers, Warsaw Wave Hold Soccer Camp

The Warsaw Lady Tiger Soccer Team partnered with the Warsaw Wave in a community soccer outreach event Saturday morning. Around 75 children braved the wet weather to improve their skills. The campers were split into various age groups, with the Warsaw Wave coaches leading the children through some soccer specific exercises while the Lady Tiger soccer team provided support.

Grace Spikers Soar By Spring Arbor

Grace’s volleyball team earned an emphatic road win on Friday night, sweeping Spring Arbor in Crossroads League play. The Lady Lancers (7-8, 2-4 CL) bettered the Cougars in almost every facet of the game, winning 25-22, 25-15, 25-22. The Cougars (2-8, 0-6 CL) were muted offensively, struggling to a .024 team hitting percentage. Spring Arbor never hit above .070 as a team in any of the three sets on Friday.
