Loyd J. Wadkins, 60, Silver Lake, died at 7:45 a.m. Sept. 28, 2016, at St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne. His parents were Nero and Minerva Robinson Wadkins. On June 20, 1980, in Elwood, he married Kathryn Stage, who survives in Silver Lake. No services are planned.

Lady Lancer Tennis Tops Rival Bethel In Crossroads League Play

Grace’s women’s tennis team eked out a 5-4 victory over Bethel on Tuesday. The Lady Lancers (8-4, 4-4 Crossroads League) split the singles’ courts but had a 2-1 advantage in doubles to carry the day. Natalia Kurkova and Molly Fitzpatrick won 8-2 at No. 2 doubles, and Gabrielle Lawrence and Mariah Lewis won by the same score at No. 3 to get Grace started on a strong note. Grace defeated the Pilots (6-5, 3-5 CL) in singles at No. 1, 3 and 5. Kurkova completed her perfect day with a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles, and Lawrence followed suit with a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 5

BOURBON ­– Jay F. Bates, 83, Bourbon, passed away Sept. 27, 2016, at home with his family by his side. He was born April 27, 1933, in Plymouth, the son of Harry W. and Olive H. Ecker Bates. He married Sue Ann Haenes of Bremen, eloping on Valentine’s Day 1969 to Watseka, Ill.
