Warsaw Sweeps NLC Cross Country Titles; Wawasee Fourth

Warsaw runners won both the girls and boys Northern Lakes Conference individual and team cross country championships Saturday at Ox Bow Park. Both of Wawasee’s teams finished fourth in their respective divisions. The Lady Tigers were paced by four top-10 finishers; Mia Beckham won in 19:30 and Allison Miller was less than a step behind. Charlene Orr was fifth, and Angie Sanchez-Vijil was eighth. Megan Metzger rounded out the scoring with a 14th place finish, giving Warsaw 30 points and easily outdistancing runnerup Northridge with 52 points.

HS Roundup: Lady Tigers Fall To Northridge In Bid For Conference Crown

Warsaw fell short of winning a Northern Lakes Conference girls soccer championship with a 2-1 loss at Northridge Thursday night. Delaney Taylor stakeed the Lady Tigers to a lead with an unassisted goal in the first half, and the match was tied at halftime before the Lady Raiders won it with a second-half goal. “I know that our girls played with all of their hearts tonight. That wasn’t in question during the match,” Warsaw head coach Peter Lucht said. “If we had combined the intensity that was there with better execution and decision making, it could have been a different result.

Loyd J. Wadkins, 60, Silver Lake, died at 7:45 a.m. Sept. 28, 2016, at St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne. His parents were Nero and Minerva Robinson Wadkins. On June 20, 1980, in Elwood, he married Kathryn Stage, who survives in Silver Lake. No services are planned.
