Veteran Triton Volleyball Team Eyes A Deep Tournament Run

BOURBON -ÊThis year's volleyball players at Triton know what they want. And right now they are concentrating on how they will get it. After winning the Northern State Conference, the sectional and the first game of the regional last year, the Trojans are not ready to give in without a good fight this season.Although just three seniors, Emily Yankovich, Missy Nifong and Kristi Sechrist, graduated from last year's regional runner-up team, Yankovich and Nifong were starters.Yankovich was not only a starter, she was the team's most valuable player as well. However, only two starters graduated, so that leaves several returners with valuable experience, and the girls at Triton want to improve upon their performance last season.

Fick Lone Senior, Leads Young Warrior Team

SYRACUSE - Because she is the oldest and most experienced on a team filled with underclassmen, Wawasee High School girls basketball coach Kem Zolman calls Tiffany Fick the "grandmother of the group." Indeed, the 5-foot-9 Fick is the senior member of Zolman's 2005-2006 Warrior team. In fact, she's the only senior. Fick returns for her senior campaign after scoring 11.7 points per game and pulling down 8.8 rebounds last year for the Warriors, who finished the season 14-9 overall, 5-2 in the Northern Lakes Conference and fell 42-29 to rival NorthWood in the sectional championship. Rachel Canen was last year's leading scorer at 12.5 points per game and was lost to graduation. Like Fick this year, Canen was the only senior a year ago.

Roe v. Wade: 30 Years And 39 Million Lives

Last week I was listening to some pro-abortion people talking on CNN about the 30th anniversary of Roe v.Wade. They also were talking about how horrible it would be if W would appoint a conservative judge or two to the Supreme Court and Roe v.Wade would be - gasp - overturned. Hey, to me it's a case of the old "what goes around comes around." For nearly 200 years abortion was illegal in this country.Back in 1973, the makeup of the Supreme Court was such that abortion became legal - constitutionally protected, in fact. If 30 years and 39 million abortions later the makeup of the Supreme Court changes again, well, I guess all I have to say is, boo-hoo. I mean really, how horrible would it be if the right to kill unborn children was taken away? I hear the pro-abortion folks talk about a woman's right to choose, a woman's reproductive rights and a woman's dignity. Dignity? I guess I never really considered abortion dignified.

Local Police Take Advantage Of Technology

Technology and computerization are changing the face of local law enforcement and making major changes in how today's police forces operate. Seven years ago the Warsaw police had no cellular phones or computers, and used only basic typewriters, pagers and radios. Now with computers, fax-modems, laptops, alpha-numeric pagers, cellular phones, body video and laser radar, police officers have access to unlimited information at the flick of a switch. "The technology helps us to do our jobs better and faster and more efficiently," said Warsaw Police Chief Craig Allebach. Around 1991 the police force made its opening moves into the modern era by buying several mobile phones for squad cars before cellular technology was available in Warsaw, Allebach said.
