Squires Fall In Final Appearance At Weeks Gym

Donald S. Weeks Gymnasium has not been very kind to the Manchester High School boys basketball team in recent memory. Their tenants, Columbia City, have not been nice either.  The Squires have not beaten the host Eagles on their court since Dec. 20, 1997. With Tuesday night marking their final time playing at Weeks Gym, Manchester wanted to end that streak with a big win.

  So this time of year, and again in November and March, we hear the leadership of high school, college and professional sports teams who have not been successful use the catch phrase “change the culture”.   What they mean by that is simple to explain and understand, but much harder to accomplish.   The ‘culture’ being referred to is the underlying work ethic and team chemistry inside the lockeroom. It’s what almost no one else sees or experiences until we see the results of it on the field of play.

Wawasee Girls Show Defensive Intensity In Loss At Westview

Wawasee displayed plenty of intensity — especially on the defensive end of the court — in falling 37-36 in girls basketball Friday at Westview. The visitors led 34-28 with 2:22 to play following a pair of free throws by Aubrey Schmeltz and were still up 36-31 with 30.2 seconds to go after Aubrey Kuhn made one free throw then saw Westview rally for a home victory.
