Lady Warriors Come Up Short

A Letter To Mom About The Cubs

 EDITOR’S NOTE: The following is an open letter written by Roger Grossman to his mother, who developed him into a Cubs fan at an early age by listening to games on the radio with him almost every day. Delores Grossman passed away September 11, 2012. She was 81 years old. She was 14 when the Cubs last played in the World Series and she never saw them win it.

Reiff Scores 23, Cumberland Nets 15 In Whitko’s Win

Senior Aly Reiff scored 23 points and Brianna Cumberland added 15 in No. 2 (Class 2A) Whitko’s 62-54 girls basketball win over Central Noble Tuesday night. Ellie Snep had 10 points for the Lady Wildcats. Meleah Leatherman had a game-high 26 points for Central Noble.

Rev. Paul Dean Tinkel

The Rev. Paul Dean Tinkel, 83, Warsaw, went home to be with his Lord and Savior at 8:50 a.m. Nov. 7, 2016, in his residence, surrounded by his family and loved ones. On Feb. 26, 1933, he was born in Wabash to Arthur Henry and Lylia Mae Starbuck Tinkel. He was united in marriage to Judy Elizabeth Foy on Feb. 27, 1953, in Beckley, W.Va. She survives. He was a graduate of Akron High School, class of 1951, and received an associate degree from Great Commission Bible School, Anderson. He then received his bachelor’s degree from Ashland (Ohio) College University and Seminary.  He held many pastorates, including Gatewood Brethren Church, Fayetteville, W.Va.; Brush Valley Brethren Church, Adrian, Pa.; Roanoke First Brethren Church; Warsaw First Brethren Church; New Paris First Brethren Church; Milford First Brethren Church; West Eel River Church of the Brethren; and he started the Meadow Crest Brethren Church, Fort Wayne. These churches included six building programs, and he served on several district and denominational boards and committees.

Donald Lee Evilsizor, 57, lost his battle with primary brain cancer on Nov. 4, 2016. Don was born May 14, 1959, to Donald Leroy and Judy Gaerte Evilsizor in Columbia City.

Stanley Custer and Phyllis Evans were united in marriage on Nov. 17, 1946, in Milford Christian Church, with Pastor Harry Graham officiating.

Jake and Sibyl Stone, Warsaw, recently celebrated their 50th anniversary.

Boggs 60th

Larry and Betty Boggs will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Nov. 10.

Kreider 50th

Willis and Georgia Smith Kreider, Goshen, were married Nov. 12, 1966, at the former Tamarack Methodist Church, Mishawaka.

Lady Squires Roll Adams Central In GBB Opener

Junior Cierra Cater and sophomore Sydney Day had 10 points each as Manchester rolled over Adams Central 51-20 in the girls basketball season opener for both teams Saturday night. Erika Kendall had nine points for the Lady Squires, and Bailey Sewell added six in the win.
