Dale R. Stump

MILFORD — Dale R. Stump, 91, Milford, passed away Dec. 13, 2016, at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Milford.  He was born Oct. 27, 1925, in Nappanee, to Clayton and Hazel Defreese Stump. He graduated from Milford High School with the class of 1943 and went on to honorably serve his country in the U.S. Navy.  He married Glennis Orn on June 17, 1944, in San Jose, Calif. 

Sally Baker

Sally L. Baker, 71, Milford, passed away at 12:40 a.m. Dec. 14, 2016, at Goshen Hospital.  She was born May 26, 1945, in Warsaw, to Ralph E. and Gladys Marie Hollar Berkeypile.  She was a lifetime Milford area resident and graduated in 1963 from Milford High School. She was married May 27, 1964, at St. Mark’s Church in Goshen, to Dean E. Baker, who survives. 

Norman Allen Gunsolley,

Norman Allen Gunsolley, Winona Lake, passed away at 6:39 a.m. Dec. 12, 2016, at Grace Village Health Care, Winona Lake, at the age of 72 after a four-month battle with cancer.  He graduated from high school in 1962 in Columbus, Neb. In 1966 he received his bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Trinity College, Deerfield, Ill., and earned his master’s degree in school administration from the University of South Dakota in 1970.  Before retiring in 2012, Norman had a 46-year career in education. He had a passion for Christian education and began his career with schools in Illinois. Later he started Community Christian School in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and worked there for 10 years until moving to Kosciusko County in 1987. The last 25 years of his career were spent as the administrator at Warsaw Christian School. He was a former member of the International Association of Christian Schools.

Thorpe Mitchell

SYRACUSE — Col. G. Thorpe Mitchell, United States Air Force, husband to Karen Mitchell, father to Brad Mitchell and son of Gerald and Marcia Mitchell, passed Dec. 11, 2016.  He was born April 2, 1938, in New Kensington, Pa. He grew up along the East Coast and in 1954 moved to Wilmette, Ill., where he later graduated from New Trier High School.

First-Half Run Lifts Lady Tigers

Saturday night, Warsaw's varsity girls basketball team put Northern Lakes Conference rival Plymouth away with an impressive second-half effort. On Tuesday, the Lady Tigers used a fine first half to beat non-conference foe Columbia City.

Rivalry Game Different This Time

Warsaw and Wawasee have been playing girls basketball games against each other for 40 years. They have met 57 previous times – 10 of those times were in the single-class sectional.
