Jay M. Berkey

SYRACUSE — Jay M. Berkey, 67, Minster, Ohio, formerly of Warsaw, passed away at 3:42 p.m. Dec. 18, 2016, at his home.  He was born Sept. 22, 1949, in Warsaw, to John R. and Esther L. Matthews Berkey. He graduated in 1968 from Warsaw High School, received a degree in welding, and was a United States Army veteran. On Dec. 31, 1981, in Milford, he married Deborah A. Howard, who survives. 

Thomas Summy,

Thomas Summy, 63, Warsaw, passed away at 8:43 p.m. Dec. 16, 2016, at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw. He was born on Feb. 13, 1953, to Clyde and Viola Huffman Summy in Warsaw. He has been a lifetime resident of Warsaw. He loved to fish. He is survived by his mother, Viola Summy, Warsaw; his nephews, Ryan Summy, Warsaw, and Paul Travis Summy; and several cousins.  He was preceded by his father, Clyde Summy, and his brother, Paul Summy. Robert D. “Bob” Blakeley,

Robert D. “Bob” Blakeley, 78, Winona Lake, passed away at 5:24 a.m. Dec. 18, 2016, in Grace Village Healthcare Center, Winona Lake. On Feb. 8, 1938, he was born in Newark, Ohio, to C. Dell and Florence Bonham Blakeley.  A 50-year resident of Warsaw, he was a former manager of Kline’s Department Store, retiring in 1986. He then purchased Kosko Manufacturing, where he retired in 2006.

Vernon R. Spurlock Sr.

MENTONE — Vernon R. Spurlock Sr., 91, Mentone, died at 7:35 a.m. Dec. 15, 2016. He was born Jan. 27, 1925, in Hernshaw, W.Va., to William and Beulah Tucker Spurlock. On Oct. 10, 1943, in Grand Rapids, Mich., he married Elizabeth C. “Betty” Halstedt. She survives.

She married Bill Robison on Sept. 25, 1950. He died Sept. 21, 2013. A memorial service is planned for 5 p.m. Dec. 28, 2016, at Congregational Christian Church, 310 N. Walnut St., North Manchester. Carol Ann Schuler,

Carol Ann Schuler, 79, Winona Lake, passed away at 6:25 a.m. Dec. 17, 2016, at Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester.  She was born Feb. 5, 1937, in Long Beach, Calif., to George Wellington and Marjorie Elizabeth Gedney Davis. On July 25, 1958, she was married to John Ivan Schuler, who survives.  Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.  A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church, 1200 Kings Highway, Winona Lake, and officiated by Pastor Bruce Barlow.
