Residents Complain To Plan Commission About Forest Park

"I'm tired of taking this Forest Park on promises," said Kim Leake, Warsaw public works superintendent, who sits on the city's plan commission, in a statement that summed up the complaints heard by the Warsaw Plan Commission Monday from more than 15 homeowners in the Forest Park Development. The plan commission Monday heard the concerns of the homeowners who live in the Forest Park development. Ben Music, who represented the Fort Wayne developer, said, "I'll do everything I can to make you happy." Many of the concerns brought up by the homeowners were not addressable by the board.Mike Valentine, Warsaw city attorney, told the concerned homeowners their best choice might be to put a group together and hire a private attorney to take care of several breach of contract issues.

Businesses Uprooted By Jail Plans Making Decisions About Their Future

As Kosciusko County prepares to demolish the buildings on the corner of Center and Lake streets in Warsaw this summer for the jail expansion, the businesses operating in those facilities are making decisions on what to do next. One has found a new location.Another will go out of business and two are still undecided. June E.Hamman, owner of Mail & Package Mart, said her business is moving to 714 N.Detroit St., the former location of Blimpie's.She said she began looking for a new location once she received the eviction notice in February. "I felt I had to go out and look right away and not wait until demolition day," she said. Although she heard rumors that the county might eventually demolish the building when she bought the store in November, she said she didn't actually expect it to happen for several years. But, she said, "for us, it turned out to be enough notice." She checked out different plazas and now is planning a May 3 opening day.

Charles Lagoni

Charles A. Lagoni, 83, Silver Lake, passed away at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 21, 2016,  in Autumn Ridge Rehabilitation Center, Wabash. He was born Sept. 11, 1934, in Chicago, Ill., to Christian and Stella Bertronski Lagoni. He was a Silver Lake resident for 13 years and was formerly of the Chicagoland area. He was united in marriage to Elfriede J. Popp on Feb. 14, 1973, in Chicago. She preceded him on Oct. 6, 2013. He retired as a postmaster in Techny, Ill., with 40 years of service with the United States Postal Service. He faithfully served his country in the United States Navy as a radioman third class aboard the destroyer USS H.R. Dickson during the Korean conflict from June 1953 to June 1957.  He was an avid fisherman and a longtime fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears.
