Warsaw Hosts Winter Percussion Ensemble Competition

Twenty-four percussion ensembles from Indiana and one from Illinois will compete Saturday in the Warsaw Community High School Winter Percussion Invitational.

AKRON — Renee LeeAnn Gagnon, 31, Rochester, formerly of Akron, died at 6:10 p.m. March 7, 2017, at her residence. She was born Sept. 19, 1985, in Rochester, to Terry Gagnon and Georgia Clark. She was a graduate of Tippecanoe Valley High School. She also furthered her education at International Business College, Fort Wayne, and graduated as a vet tech. She enjoyed camping, riding horses and boating. She always had a love for all animals. But most of all she was a proud mother to the love of her life, Rienn.

Gerri L. Longanecker

NORTH MANCHESTER — Gerri L. Longanecker, 70, North Manchester, died at 2 a.m. March 8, 2017, at Timbercrest Senior Living Community, North Manchester. She was born July 31, 1946, in Huntington, to Carl Sr. and Mary Reeves Herndon. On Sept. 10, 1966, she married David F. Longanecker. He died May 9, 2014. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, with calling one hour prior, at First Brethren Church, 407 N. Sycamore St., North Manchester. Pastor Karl Stout will officiate. Bethel Advances In NAIA Tourney With 104-78 Win

Bethel College had six players in double figures in its 104-78 rout of Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) Thursday in the first round of the NAIA Division II National Tournament. Gage Ott had a game-high 19 points for the Pilots, with Triton alum Clay Yeo, along with Paul Foreman and Caleb Oetjen, adding 15 points each. Former Warsaw Tiger Jordyn Coon had 14, and Ryan Wassink tossed in 10 points in the winning cause.

Lady Spartan Softball Falls

Junior outfielder Mikayla Deisler rapped three hits in four at-bats, leading Manchester University’s offense Thursday.  Deisler delivered one of the squad’s five hits in a five-inning, game one 10-0 loss to visiting Taylor University. Continuing an afternoon and early evening when her batting average soared 100 points the junior came back in the nightcap to go two-for-two with a run scored as part of a close-knit 6-3 loss.

Fish, Chicken, Tenderloin Fry Is Saturday

SILVER LAKE — A fish, chicken and tenderloin fry is planned for Saturday at the Silver Lake Conservation Building. The fry, sponsored by Silver Lake Lions Club, is from 4 p.m. until sold out. Cost is $9 per pound, and side dishes will be available. A bake sale by South Pleasant Church also is planned.

Larry Lee Glant,

Larry Lee Glant, 77, Warsaw, passed away March 7, 2017, at his home. He was born March 31, 1939, in Leesburg, to Samuel and Donnabelle Ulrey Glant.  He was a lifetime resident of Warsaw and graduated Leesburg High School in 1957. He was a long haul truck driver for 40 years. He took pride in purchasing his first Peterbuilt semi-truck at the age of 50 and also winning the semi-truck Show & Shine 2002 at the Kosciusko County Fair. He was an avid golfer and played in many tournaments at surrounding golf courses. He enjoyed the summer “Golf Tour” with the guys and several yearly golf trips to South Carolina. He enjoyed mowing his yard and his mother’s field and cutting wood for sale to keep himself active. He was a member of the Moose Lodge. He is survived by his mother, Donnabelle Glant; three daughters: Sonia DeGaetano, Kathy Buckheit and Lori (spouse Mike) Morel, all of Warsaw; four grandchildren: Angela (spouse Sam) Miller, Seattle, Wash.; and Danielle DeGaetano and Reese and Sydney Morel, all of Warsaw; two great-grandchildren, Tanner and Dexter Beck; a brother, Jack (spouse Kathy) Glant, Garden Grove, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his father; a brother, Alan Glant; and a son-in-law, Phillip DeGaetano. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. Richard C. “Dick” Bolesky

Richard C. “Dick” Bolesky, 85, Warsaw, passed away at 10:35 a.m. March 6, 2017, in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.  He was born Jan. 3, 1932, in Mansfield, Ohio, to Kenneth and Mildred Hopkins Bolesky. On June 5, 1954, he was united in marriage to Nancy Smith in South Bend. She preceded him March 21, 2013. He was a 1950 graduate of John Adams High School, South Bend, and graduated Purdue University in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering. He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps as a commissioned second lieutenant from 1954 and was released from active duty as first lieutenant in 1956.
