COLUMBIA CITY — Mary Louise Rowland, 84, South Whitley, died at 11 p.m. March 19, 2017, at Peabody Home, North Manchester, where she had been a resident since Jan. 10. She was born Aug. 29, 1932, in Jackson Township, Kosciusko County, a daughter of Benjamin and Susie Maloy Jontz. Her formative years were spent in Kosciusko County. She graduated from Silver Lake High School and continued her education at Ivy Tech. On Jan. 3, 1953, she was united in marriage to Duane M. Rowland. They made their home in Silver Lake. While Duane served in the U.S. Navy, they lived in San Diego, then returning to Silver Lake and in 1969 to Cleveland Township, Whitley County.

Max E. Miller, 87, Leesburg, passed away at 2:30 p.m. March 16, 2017, in his residence. On Dec. 1, 1929, he was born in New Paris to Albert and Caroline Stump Miller. He was united in marriage to Florence Elder on Dec. 27, 1959, in Calhoun, Ga. She preceded him in death on Oct. 11, 2011. He served our country honorably in the U.S. Air Force from 1948
NORTH MANCHESTER — Ralph “Sonny” James, 77, North Manchester, died at 12:43 p.m. March 18, 2017, in Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home, Fort Wayne. He was born Aug. 26, 1939, in Hornersville, Mo., to Jesse James and Mittie Williams. He was married to Sally Conrad on July 19, 1969. She survives. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1964. Grace women’s basketball team wrapped up the 2017 NCCAA National Championships with a dramatic 64-63 win over Southwestern Christian on Friday. The win gave the Lady Lancers (17-19) fifth place in the national tournament, the team’s second-best finish in program history and best since 2012. Grace’s 17 wins were also the team’s fourth-most victories for a single season.
