SOUTH WHITLEY – While there were moments of stress, Whitko sophomore pitcher Ellie Snep breezed through five of her seven innings pitched. She finished with a two-hitter in the Lady Wildcats’ season-opening 3-1 win over Lakeland Thursday evening.

Robinson Named Boys Basketball Official Of The Year

Kirk Robinson of Akron was named 2017 Boys Basketball Official of the Year by the IHSAA this week. A veteran of 35 years officiating, Robinson has worked 24 sectional tournaments, 16 regionals, five semistates and three state championship title games in his career.

Kathryn Irene “Kay” Beezley,

NORTH WEBSTER — Kathryn Irene “Kay” Beezley, 89, North Webster, passed away at 1:12 a.m. March 19, 2017, at her daughter’s home.  She was born Dec. 8, 1927, in Deer Creek, Ill., to Arthur C. and Minnie K. Dietrich Hunteman. She graduated in 1946 from Minier (Ill.) Community High School. She grew up in Illinois and moved to the North Webster area in 1969 from Arizona.  She retired over 30 years ago from Webster Wire in North Webster and formerly worked as a part-time waitress at several local restaurants. She was a member of the VFW in Syracuse and a former member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 253, North Webster. She is survived by a daughter, Teresa (Edwin) Reeves, Leesburg; a son, the Rev. Joe (Sheila) Beezley, Warsaw; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Glassey, Bloomington-Normal, Ill.; and a brother, Louie (Gerry) Hunteman, Bloomington, Ill. She was preceded by her parents; two brothers, Melvin Hunteman and Velde Hunteman; and a great-grandchild. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Ind. 13 and CR 500N, North Webster.  Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Joe Beezley officiating. Harold Calvin Mullins

Harold Calvin Mullins, 77, Pierceton, passed away at 10:21 p.m. March 17, 2017, in Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne. On July 18, 1939, he was born in Myra, Ky., to Jester Estep and Ida Mullins Smith. He was united in marriage to Wilma Mullins on Jan. 27, 1958, in Wise, Va.; she survives. He served our country honorably in the United States Air Force. He was retired from KEMRAD and also worked for Reese Security as a security guard.  He is survived by his wife, Wilma Mullins, Pierceton; one son, Jerry Wayne (spouse Gail) Mullins, Claypool; one daughter, Barbara Ann (spouse Jack) Emerick, Auburn; one brother, David (spouse Deneae) Smith, Esserville, Va.; one sister, Barbara Sue (spouse Larry) Mitter, Louise, Virginia; two half sisters, Barbara (spouse Conrad) Burke, Lickfork, Ky., and Anita Elkins, Wellington, Ky.; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. Dorothy Lucille Gore,

GAS CITY — Dorothy Lucille Gore, 96, died Jan. 21, 2017, in Indianapolis.  Born May 23, 1920, in Marion, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Anna Deihl Russell, and she married Chester M. Gore in 1939. A very hard worker all of her life, she worked at several jobs and locations, including Deluxe Coil, B. Walters and Gore’s Nursing Home. She retired from Owens-Illinois/Kimble Glass and then worked at Penguin Point Drive-in in Warsaw until her 80s.  She is survived by her brother, Ron (spouse Dixie) Russell, Fairmount; daughter, Judith Engledow, Wabash; son, Steven (spouse Joan) Gore, Indianapolis; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives. She was preceded by her parents; husband; brother, Kenneth Russell; sister, Cleophia (Cecil “Buck”) Poulson; daughter, Lucinda “Cindy” Jane Gore; and son-in-law, Jack Engledow. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St, Gas City.
