Some Days Are Better Than Others

Well, Tuesday turned out to be quite the unusual, eventful day for me. On Monday, I got a call from somebody who said there was a really big, fast-looking boat in town. He gave me a number.I called it. I spoke to a very friendly gentleman, Jim Franklin from Rowlett, Texas, who offered to take me for a boat ride on Lake Wawasee. I met him at the ramp and went for a ride in an Eliminator 33 Daytona with around 1,140 horsepower. We reached a speed of 107.5 mph. It was quite exhilarating, I must say.Our family boat goes about 40. Forty in this boat seemed as if you could jump out and go for a swim. He let me drive the boat, too. That was really nice of him.Of course I drove the boat a great deal slower than he did.I mean, after all, it wasn't my boat. So I got some basic information from him and decided to run a couple pictures in the newspaper because it was, after all, a really cool boat.

The Winona Lake Redevelopment Commission Wednesday approved resolutions to remove the property at 800 Park Ave.from the existing economic development area and designate it a blighted area. The redevelopment plan for this area also was approved. When an area is designated as blighted it means the Redevelopment Commission decided there is a better use for that property. The property in question doesn't conform to the use of other property around it and has deteriorated to the point that it does not fit in the area for economic growth as far as the TIF district is concerned.

Like Father, Like Son

Bob and Jakob Dylan.Kirk and Michael Douglas.Charlie and Martin Sheen.John and Julian Lennon. They're all famous fathers and sons, but how often have they worked, played or performed together? Probably not as often as Kim and Brandon Bussard. The Bussards, of Warsaw, both play drums and often perform together for groups, at talent contests and at a few car exhibitions. "We were best of show my freshman year (at the high school talent show)," said Brandon. Because Brandon is graduating from high school soon, their last father-son duet will be at 10 a.m.May 27 at Warsaw Community High School during the Renaissance program. Brandon said, "It's usually just been awards.Lately, they've tried to bring in entertainment, and they invited us this year." Perfection takes practice, and the Bussards started early in life to get as much practice as they could.
