Wawasee FB Coach Ekovich Steps Down

Wawasee head football coach Josh Ekovich stepped down from his position Friday, citing a desire to spend more time with his wife and young children. Ekovich spent six seasons with Warrior football, the last four as head coach after Tom Wogomon took the job at Northridge, for many of the same reasons Ekovich is stepping aside. “You know, a lot of this has to do with being so far away,” said the Kendallville resident. “There’s always that song in the back of my head (Harry Chapin’s “Cats In The Cradle’) and I think ‘man, I’m losing a bunch of time with the family,’

Opening Day At Akron Speedway May 6

Several events are planned for the 2017 season at Akron Speedway, beginning with go-kart races on opening day, May 6. Other activites include “Crusin’ in the Badlands,” a car show on May 19, and the Brady Houck 10th anniversary memorial race for the CLONE 360# class, with $500 to win plus a brand new set of four Hoosier Tires.

John L. "Jack" Steinkamp,

FORT WAYNE – John L. "Jack" Steinkamp, 74, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at Bryn Mawr Hospital in Bryn Mawr, Pa.  Born in Seymour, Jack was the son of the late Glenn and Jean Steinkamp. He graduated from Indiana University with a doctorate in law and began working at what is now Lincoln Financial Group. He retired 36 years later as vice president and associate general council.  He was a 28-year member of Faith Baptist Church in Fort Wayne, and was a member of the 707 Club in Media, Pa. Jack enjoyed the outdoors: golfing, traveling and taking daily walks. He loved to visit with family and friends and enjoyed all "woofers" he was privileged to meet.

State Raises Grade For Lakeland Christian Academy

The  Indiana accountability grade for Lakeland Christian Academy was upgraded from an “F” to a “C”, according to documents obtained from the Indiana Department of Education.

Whitko GBB Coach Bradley Steps Down

Citing a desire to be closer to his family in central Indiana, Whitko girls basketball coach Brandon Bradley announced his resignation Thursday afternoon. “I made this decision solely on my own, and I made this decision based on my family,” Bradley said in a statement. “I have now lived in northern Indiana for more than 10 years, while my immediate family is in central Indiana.  With my parents in that retirement stage of their lives, and other family members dealing with health issues, I feel that this is the best decision for me.”
