John Gares Martin Sr., Warsaw, passed away at 7:20 a.m. Thursday, March 9, 2017, at Mason Health and Rehabilitation Center, Warsaw, at the age of 87. He was born on Dec. 12, 1929, in Canton, Ohio, to Catherine Angela Boylan Martin and William Earle Martin. On July 19, 1952, in Troy, Ohio, he was married to Rose Marie “Okie” Brown, who passed away on Oct. 27, 2010. A memorial open house will be 1-5 p.m. Sunday, April 30, 2017, at 2702 E. 225 S., Warsaw. GOSHEN — Charles L. Rogers, 95, formerly of New Paris, died at 1:38 a.m. April 16, 2017, at Sunny Hills, Sebring, Fla. He was born Jan. 21, 1922, in Nappanee, to Bruce and Mary Fox Rogers. He married Grace Cowley on Oct. 13, 1944, and she died Feb. 14, 2000. He married Deloris Harley Buttram on April 7, 2006. Surviving are his wife, Deloris Rogers, Sebring; daughters, Marilyn (Galen “Dick”) Groves, New Paris, and Peggy Rogers (Greg Gunther), Pasadena, Calif.; a stepson, Walker Malone, Vacaville, Calif.; sisters, Marjorie Kirkdorffer, Elkhart, and Mary Mathews, New Paris; a brother, Loyal Rogers, New Paris; grandchildren: Michael Groves, Goshen; Anthony Groves, Oaklyn, N.J.; Angela Groves Price, Warsaw; Sara Gunther, Dallas, Texas; and David Gunther, Seattle, Wash.; two stepgranddaughters; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Grace; sisters, Dorothy Watkins and Arlene Rogers; brothers, Carlyle Rogers and Bruce Jr. Rogers; a stepdaughter, Julie Wilkins; and a granddaughter, Anna Groves. Charles attended the historic Union Township Brown School (a one-room school). He was owner of Rogers Construction Inc., retiring in 1989. He was a member of Maple Grove Church of the Brethren, New Paris, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and youth counselor; and Sebring Church of the Brethren, where he served as deacon. Charles was a member and past president of both the New Paris Chamber of Commerce and the Elkhart County Home Builders and served on the Goshen General Hospital board of directors. He enjoyed years of antique tool sales at the flea market at Fireman’s Field, Highlands County Fairgrounds and Shriners, Sebring; Antique Steam Engine Association and Flea Market, Jones, Mich.; and the LaGrange County Antique Steam Engine Association, LaGrange; as well as the New Paris Community Garage Sale. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 28, and one hour prior to the 1:30 p.m. service Saturday, April 29, all at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen. The Rev. Cleora Mae Cauffman, 92, passed away Sunday morning, April 23, 2017, peacefully in Kosciusko Community Hospital after a brief Illness. Cleora was born the second of five children to Clarence Burr Ellenwood and Maggie Miller Ellenwood on June 2, 1924, in Wellsville, Kan. When Cleora was 13, her mother died and the family returned to Indiana to be nearer family. She attended and graduated from Claypool High School with the class of 1942. It was here that she met her future husband, Dale E. Cauffman. Cleora and Dale faithfully attended alumni banquets throughout the following seven decades. On Nov. 26, 1942, at Claypool Evangelical United Brethren Church, Dale and Cleora were married. They shared an enduring loving marriage for over 63 years before Dale’s passing on Feb. 19, 2006. Cleora is survived by four children: Rebecca (John) Zimmerman, San Antonio, Texas; Rita Cauffman, Warsaw; Randall (Linda) Cauffman, Mountain Home, Idaho; and Rhonda (Jim) Rigney, Mishawaka. There are nine grandchildren who meant the world to Cleora: Marcus (Lisa) Zimmerman, San Antonio; Martha Jane (Rich) Ekstrom, Elkhart; Michael (Melissa) Zimmerman, New Paris; Nathaniel (Katlin) Cauffman, Nicholas Cauffman and Andrew (Amanda) Cauffman, all of Boise, Idaho; Zachary and Dane Rigney, both of Carmel; and Tyler Rigney, Akron, Ohio. There are 13 great-grandchildren, and much to Cleora’s delight a great-great-granddaughter was born this past October. Cleora is also survived by sisters Mary Patterson, Warsaw, and Ida Helvey-Cripe, North Manchester. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Burrlene Harris and brother Earl Ellenwood. Cleora was the Wayne Township assessor for 24 years, retiring in 1992. Cleora and Dale were inducted into the Republican Hall of Fame in 1987. She was past Woman of the Year for the GOP, a long-standing member of the Happy Homemakers Club, a member of Kosciusko Home Extension for over 70 years, and could be found displaying her flowers, vegetables and crocheted works at the fair every year. The spectacular garden you saw driving south of town on Ind. 15 belonged to them. Cleora and Dale took their children on many adventures across the United States from one coast to the other in the family RV. They visited many family members on their travels. In time, the grandchildren got to be part of the adventures and loved camping with them. Cleora was a member of Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church. Visitation with the family will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 27, at Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church, with Pastor Tom Miller officiating. Doris M. Fisher, 99, formerly of Warsaw, passed away peacefully April 4, 2017. She is survived by a son, Ron, Bradenton Fla.; a daughter, Amy Fisher Smith, Columbia Mo.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A graveside service is planned at a later date in Bremen.
