- GSA - Silver Lake Election - Cross Country - Miller For Governor - Thoughtful Stranger GSA Editor, Times-Union: Our community and high school have won a great addition.Unfortunately, we have been raised in a society raised to hate what we do not understand.GSA, the Gay Straight Alliance, is a harmless organization.A group of homosexual and heterosexual human beings trying to make the world a better place to live.

- Expansion Plans - Wonderful Strangers - Grateful To Be Alive - Honesty - Educational Priorities Expansion Plans Editor, Times-Union: I'm the very proud mother of three terrific sons who will most likely be finished with Warsaw Community Schools before the new expansion plans are completed. But after experiencing how a portion of this proposal would have enhanced their education, I truly understand how important this is to the future students and the future of the community.I'm concerned about our present dilemma of dealing with our lack of adequate facilities for our performing arts programs. Now is the time.

Wawasee Swimming Teams Look To Reload

When a school loses as many swimmers as Wawasee did to graduation, the word "rebuild" is often heard. However, when a program with a winning tradition loses that many swimmers, such as Wawasee's, the word more often used is "reload." There is no doubt that the boys and girls teams at Wawasee have a lot of holes to fill and have numerous question marks. However, head coach Roger Karns knows that rebuilding is not something he needs to worry about at Wawasee. "I hate to use the term rebuilding, because it makes it sound as if you start over," Karns said."I don't think you do that. We're kind of reorganizing. We've got some good kids here and if they're willing to accept the new role of increased responsibility, I think we can do OK." So, Wawasee won't start over from scratch after a season in which the girls team went 11-1 and the boys team went 11-0.They will just do a bit of tweaking.Take the girls' first meet of the season against DeKalb, for instance.

Warsaw, Wawasee CC Teams Meet Expectations

DUNLAP - Wawasee coach Dave Stookey's worst fear was repeating 1999. Last year his boys cross country team won the sectional but failed to crack the top five to get out of regional, even though both rounds were held at Ox Bow Park. "After last year, it was in the back of my mind," Stookey said."I was wondering how bad we would have to run to not get out of here." He would not find out. Wawasee met expectations and placed second to DeKalb in Saturday's Elkhart Regional at Ox Bow Park.DeKalb owned the regional and the day, as its girls team also finished first. The DeKalb boys won with 47 points and were followed by Wawasee with 71, Northridge with 74, Central Noble with 123 and Angola with 128.Warsaw's boys team advanced to the regional but its season ended with an eighth-place finish. The top 15 individuals and top five teams advance to Saturday's Manchester Semistate.

Kennedy Travels Winding Path To Get To Grace College

WINONA LAKE - The stories that can be told about James Kennedy. Around Grace College, they've become almost legendary. This 18-year-old Kenyan has stormed onto the national cross country scene with mind-boggling results and a No.2 ranking in the Great Lakes Region. Take the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships.Kennedy beat his best time ever by running eight kilometers in 23:38, the second-best time among NAIA runners. That averages out to better than 4-1/2 minutes a mile for five miles. He's actually better at the 1,500 in track than in cross country. There's the stories of how Kennedy has talked to his friends and has five other Kenyans interested in coming to Grace as soon as this winter, four of which may be faster than him. There's the story of how Kennedy chose Grace because he was afraid of the fast-paced American style and wanted to go to a small school in a small town.

Tiger Wrestlers Go 2-2

CULVER - Warsaw's varsity wrestlers traveled to Culver Military Academy Saturday for a "super dual" involving five teams.Ê The Tigers finished the day with two wins and two losses.Ê Four Warsaw individuals went undefeated for the day: Matt Zellers (152 pounds), Steve Fribley (189), Steve McKinley (215) and Joey Navarro (275). Coach Tony Boley said the team worked hard with good attendance in practices during the recent school closings, so he was disappointed about the two team losses, noting that in each case the Tigers missed victory by only one individual match.Ê The Warsaw team scores were as follows: Lake Central 36, Warsaw 33; Fremont 42, Warsaw 40; Warsaw 54, Culver Military 25; Warsaw 46, Logansport 25.Ê The Tiger dual record for the season now stands at 10-2.

Repeat Is Sweet For Triton

INDIANAPOLIS - The wrong people wore the capes. Several Triton boys wore yellow capes over their blue Triton jerseys as they revved up some 1,400 Trojan fans at Saturday's Class A state finals at Conseco Fieldhouse. But it was Triton's girls basketball players who turned in the superhuman-like first-quarter effort for a state finals game. Triton, ranked No.1 in Class A with a 22-3 record, jumped on top of No.2 White River Valley 16-0 in winning its second state championship in a row.The Trojans, who topped Rising Sun 57-54 in overtime last year, had it easier this time with a 55-38 win over the 22-6 Wolverines. "You dream about winning one," 11th-year Triton coach Mark Heeter said."To come back and win two in a row is unbelievable.
