Former Resident Murder Suspect In Alabama

A former Whitley County man is in jail today in Alabama charged with homicide and robbery. According to police in Leeds, Ala., Robert Clayton Vandermark, 22, formerly of Larwill, was arrested Wednesday afternoon at the Greyhound Bus Station in Birmingham. He was charged with the early-morning murder of a woman at an apartment where he was staying.Police said they were unsure of the relationship between Vandermark and the woman, who police said is in her 20s but whose identity was not released. Vandermark also allegedly robbed the combination service station-convenience store where he worked at approximately 6 a.m.Wednesday.Police said he had more than $500 in cash when he was arrested at the bus station. A preliminary hearing has been set for Friday for formal charges against Vandermark.

Teen Injured In Boating Accident On Wawasee

SYRACUSE - A Texas teen-ager suffered a broken leg in a tubing accident Friday on Lake Wawasee and, in another incident, officials are looking for the driver of a personal watercraft involved in a hit-and-run accident. According to a Department of Natural Resources report, Ian Lenz, 13, of Flowermount, Texas, was tubing with his brother about 5:30 p.m.Friday when the tubes came together and Lenz hit the water, breaking his leg. Lenz was treated at Goshen General Hospital. No injuries were reported in a 7 p.m.accident on Lake Wawasee when a personal watercraft struck a deck boat anchored at the sandbar. After the crash, the driver of the personal watercrart fled the scene and his identity is not yet known. Damage was reported to a vessel owned by Tom M.Kimbrough, Fort Wayne.

Warsaw Police Arrest Two In Auto Theft

Warsaw police arrested two people in connection with an auto theft early this morning, according to a press release.

Man Sought In Battery Against Restaurant Worker

Police are looking for a man accused of battering a restaurant employee early this morning. Warsaw police were called to the Hardee's Restaurant on Lake City Highway at 3:04 a.m.today after a man allegedly tried to pull a female employee out through the drive-up window. The woman told police that she refused to serve the man because he was using profanity.The man then reportedly became angry and reached in through the window, grabbing the woman by the front of her shirt and trying to pull her outside.Another employee pulled the co-worker free from the man's grasp. At one point, the employee's hand was closed in the drive-through window. Charges of battery and disorderly conduct are expected against the man pending confirmation of his identity.

Four Charged In Pizza King Theft

Charges are pending against four people in connection with a Feb.25 theft from the Winona Avenue Pizza King. Charity M.Trusty, 19, of 482 Clinic Court, Warsaw, was working at the restaurant that night and told police she accidentally left the front door open while she was in the back room and, when she came out to get the money from the cash register, the register was missing. A Warsaw Police Department investigation revealed that Trusty and two others allegedly planned the theft, and a fourth person accepted money from the theft.A total of $1,876.25 was reported missing from the business. Trusty reportedly admitted to police that she lied to police and her aunt - the restaurant's manager - regarding the theft.Those involved reportedly used a portion of the proceeds to purchase drugs, according to a police report.
