Valley Has New Discipline Policy

AKRON - Assistant principal Jeff France outlined the new discipline policy that will be implemented at Tippecanoe Valley Middle School at Monday's school board meeting. France said the policy was given a trial run by the seventh-grade team during the last nine weeks of the 1996-97 school year with promising results. Students will receive warning slips for misbehavior.Accumulating four warning slips will result in a disciplinary referral.Each disciplinary referral will advance a student one step farther along the nine-step program, with the end result being expulsion.

Manchester Buys Seiler Property

NORTH MANCHESTER - A property that has been the source of problems for the town of North Manchester for more than seven years is one step closer to becoming an asset to the community. The Manchester Town Council announced at its meeting Wednesday that the purchase of the Seiler property on Ind.114 near the railroad tracks in North Manchester was finalized Feb.24.The town paid $100,000 for the property plus $438 in title insurance and a $22 recording fee, for a total expenditure of $100,460. Closing on the property took place Feb.24 and the town now has the deed to the property.The next step for the property is to remove the current structure (at a cost of around $150,000) and prepare the land for use.Once that section of the project is complete, the property will be readied for sale.

Editor, Times-Union:This is to follow my previous letter on addiction. Since my last letter was published by the Times-Union, I have received many blessings in life. I would like to take this opportunity to share the positivity that’s been shown to myself and other fellow addicts.

Two people that give all their time and efforts to taking care of our songs, brothers, fathers, uncles, husbands and friends that need help, especially with some kind of addiction. Two people that see a great need to help people get their lives back. Two people that offer the 12-step program and a house to live in that offers support and sponsors to guide and teach what they don’t know about staying well and strong.

MENTONE - Kindergarten registration for children attending Mentone Elementary School during the 2007-08 school year will be held at the school Tuesday at 7 p.m. Students entering kindergarten must be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1. A birth certificate, Social Security card and immunization records are required when the child is registered. Hacienda Fundraiser For Food Pantry

Fort Financial is raising money for the Syracuse Food Pantry by holding an event at Hacienda Mexican Restaurant June 21. Everyone that submits their “token” that day will contribute 20 percent of their bill to the Syracuse Food Pantry.Alcohol, gift cards and carry-out counts, too.Donations will be made to the food pantry around Christmas with other money rasied during the year.

Danek To Stay In Warsaw, Create 140 New Jobs

It's official, and it's good news for the local economy. Sofamor Danek, the orthopedic firm with operations in Winona Lake, will stay in Kosciusko County. The Warsaw City Council approved a Memorandum of Understanding Tuesday that will enable the company to construct a new 150,000-square-foot facility on a 25-acre site at the intersection of CR 150W and U.S.30. The estimated cost of the new facility represents a $20.2 million investment and will result in 140 additional jobs, adding $4.273 million per year in additional payroll.The expansion brings the total number of employees to approximately 390 by the time the new facility is completed in spring 2003.
