Arvil Thomas 'Whitey' Slone

GUTHRIE, Okla. – Arvil Thomas “Whitey” Slone, 63, of Guthrie, Okla., and formerly of Warsaw, died March 10, 2013, at the V.A. Medical Center, Oklahoma City, after a courageous battle with cancer.

10 Years Ago  As the Grace College Lancers faced off against the Concordia Cardinals in the NCCAA Midwest Regional Championship, the players knew that one team would advance to the top eight schools in the nation for Christian Colleges. And though the score ended 85-70 in favor of the Lancers, that end was never clear until the final seconds. The Lancers are seeded fourth in the tournament, and will face off against Oklahoma Wesleyan Thursday.    25 Years Ago   Three months after stepping down as county auditor, J.D. Geiger was presented a plaque for his services by the county council recently. Attempts to present the award during the past few months have been subverted by prior engagements. Former council president Norm DeGood presented Geiger with the plaque.50 Years Ago     Mike Valentine and Kerry Anglin received the 1963 Ruth Rodeheaver Thomas drama awards recently after the final performance of the Warsaw High School senior class play, “The Silver Whistle.” Carl Burt, superintendent of schools, presented the awards. Winners are nominated and voted upon by senior class students and faculty members. The students are chosen on the basis of talent in dramatic activities, scholarship, citizenship and character.    75 Years Ago   Mrs. E.W. Parker, Mrs. Maurice Aker and the Misses Ethel Bratt, Bonnie Bratt, Ruth Hubler, Maude Felter, Lucille Fisher, Olive Bloom, Frances Lewis and Devere Brant motored recently to South Bend.  They were guests of the South Bend Business and Professional Women at a lecture delivered by Judge Kelly, judge of the juvenile court of Memphis, Tenn.
