Remember When 4.22.2013

10 Years Ago    Square in shape, 13- by 13-inches. “The Ancient Shape of Man” offers 85 black-and-white large-format photographs by John Eric Hawkins and poetry by IPFW professor Shari Messenger and student Nate Benyousky. Hawkins travels coast to coast in search of images. He captures everything from close-ups of crystalline ice forms to seemingly endless vistas. There are photographs taken from 1986 to 2002. The photo book is financially backed by the Village at Winona.25 Years Ago     Described as someone who is “always willing to help another person in need,” Jack Phillips has been selected as Pierceton’s Outstanding Citizen. Phillips was honored recently at the annual Pierceton Community Chamber of Commerce banquet. A lifelong Pierceton resident, Phillips is a volunteer fireman, a member of the Lions Club, and was one of the first volunteer emergency medical technicians when the community EMS service was formed a number of years ago. 50 Years Ago    Mrs. Emerson (Virginia) Moser and Lozier “Bozo” Helvey, who are neighbors at Lake Shore Drive, Winona Lake, made believers out of the skeptics who contend you have to go north for northern pike when they landed five lunkers recently. The two were spin casting west of the Little Eagle Dam on the west side of Country Club Road on Moser’s property, using daredevil lures. The fish weighed in at just under 30 pounds and the largest which Mrs. Moser caught, was an eight-pounder. 75 Years Ago    Fire, starting from a bolt of lightning during the height of a recent electrical storm, totally destroyed a large barn on the S.E. Liggett farm, north of Liberty Mills. The farm was tenanted by George Fitch. Estimating damages of $3,000, observers reported the barn burst into flame at 8:45 o’clock immediately after the lightning struck. Neighbors and spectators drawn to the scene were instrumental in saving some of the livestock. S.E. Liggett is the father of Ralph Liggett, of Warsaw and Oswego.

If The Bombers Weren't Muslim ...
