The Columbia Street viaduct in Warsaw was struck by a truck for the second time in one week. A Da-Lite Screen box truck hit the viaduct owned by the Norfolk-Southern Railroad this morning. The driver, David Lightfoot, was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital to be treated for facial lacerations. Lightfoot was driving south on Columbia Street when his 12-foot truck struck the 11-foot overpass. According to police, the truck was halfway underneath the viaduct before Lightfoot came to a complete stop. He was then able to back the truck, now 1 foot shorter, out of the viaduct. No other vehicles were involved in the accident. Last Wednesday morning, a DePuy truck driven by Philip E. Brett also struck the viaduct, causing up to $5,000 damage to the truck. Brett was not injured in the crash, and the viaduct had less than $750 damage. The Warsaw Police Department estimates at least $10,000 damage to the Da-Lite truck. Photo by Gary Nieter, Times-Union
