Local Grad Gets Lilly Endowment Scholarship

Joshiekka Outlaw, a Warsaw Community High School senior, recently became the second Kosciusko County student to receive a Lilly Endowment Scholarship. Outlaw joins Carly Smoker, who received a Lilly scholarship in March. Outlaw will attend Notre Dame University, where she plans to study business management and pre-law.The Lilly Endowment Scholarship will provide full tuition for four years.It also will cover required fees and a special allocation of up to $700 per year for required books and equipment.The program is administered locally by the Kosciusko County Foundation.

Timeline for proposed improvements

According to Jerry Gibson, Construction Control, the approximate schedule for building the new Jefferson school and enlarging Claypool Elementary would be: December 2003 - Preliminary design and planning March 2004 - Design developmental drawings presented to school board September 2004 - Final documents presented to board October 2004 - Bids November 2004 - Construction starts September 2006 - Earliest occupancy in new buildings If weather prevents the start of construction in November, Gibson said, it would begin in March 2005, and occupancy would be delayed to November 2006. Maximum cost to build the two schools is projected to be $30 million, which the school corporation will finance through the capital projects fund, common school fund loan, general obligation bond issue or building corporation bond issue.

Post 49 Planning Legion Circle No. 3 In Oakwood

In 1935 John Peterson was the first person buried in Legion Circle No. 1 in Warsaw's Oakwood Cemetery. There were 100 burial plots for that first circle. In 1998 a second circle was complete and Mike Davidson was the first person buried there. In circle No. 2, just 16 plots remain.
