Every month, the North Manchester Historical Society presents a variety of free public programs with a history theme.  In March, the program will be held one week before the usual second Monday to accommodate a special Timbercrest anniversary gathering.

When you have visited the Warsaw Community Public Library children’s area lately, you may have noticed signs posted among the bookshelves begging you to “Pardon Our Mess.” You may have wondered why picture books and easy readers have disappeared and reappeared in strange places. Why are we moving things all around?

Lanny Michael Lane

Lanny Michael Lane, 79, a lifetime Warsaw resident, was called home by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at 11:55 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018. He was born in Warsaw on Dec. 16, 1938, to Lester “Jack” Lane and Jules Blue Lane. The youngest of six Lane children, Lanny was raised in his family’s home and graduated from Warsaw High School.

Russell J. ‘Russ’ Moore

Russell J. “Russ” Moore, 92, Leesburg, passed away at 9:25 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018, at Mason Health and Rehabilitation Center, Warsaw. He was born Dec. 5, 1925, in Fort Wayne, to William Earl and Frances I. Kline Moore. He attended South Side High School in Fort Wayne and was a United States Navy veteran. On Sept. 7, 1946, in Warsaw, he married Constance J. “Joan” Green, who survives.

Randall ‘Randy’ Mark Kensell

Randall “Randy” Mark Kensell, 58, Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Warsaw, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, in Fort Myers. He was born Oct. 2, 1959, in Alexandria, La., to Raymond and Marcella Kensell. His wife of 35 years, Betty Jo Kensell, survives. Local survivors include a son, Jessie (Bekah) Kensell, Winona Lake.

KEDCo President To Retire At Year’s End

George Robertson, president of Kosciusko Economic Development Corp., will retire at the end of 2018, and a search is underway for his replacement.

Stephen Ray Likens

Stephen Ray Likens, 68, La Palma, Calif., passed away Feb. 2, 2018. He was born March 10, 1949, to Colonel and Josephine Garner Likens. Steve grew up on a small farm south of Pierceton, sharing a common bond with strong family connections and interactions.

8 Grace Students Contend For Impact Award

Grace College was proud to support eight students nominated for the 12th annual Indiana INTERNnet Impact Awards (IIN). The students were selected by their internship employers because of their outstanding work ethic and leadership skills, according to a news release from Grace.

Inaugural ‘Night To Shine’ Held Friday

On Friday, First Christian Church, with support from the Kosciusko Community YMCA, played host to Warsaw’s first annual Night to Shine event, sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation. Night to Shine is a prom night experience, centered on God’s love, for people with special needs, ages 14 and older, according to a provided news release. This worldwide movement took place at over 550 churches around the world.

Valley Vikings Fall To NorthWood Panthers

AKRON – In a potential sectional preview, Tippecanoe Valley lost 53-37 to NorthWood Tuesday in nonconference boys basketball action. The Vikings (4-15) had trouble finding the bottom of the net from long range throughout the game. Hitting 6 of 25 shots from three-point distance during the contest, Valley was 1 of 15 at one point.

Gloria Jesus Verteramo

Gloria Jesus Verteramo, 86, passed away quietly on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, in Bethlehem Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation, Fort Wayne. Gloria was born to Victor Egly and Henrietta Guerra Egly on Sept. 24, 1931, in Brownsville, Texas. She was one of five children raised in the family home.
