Norman E. Brown

Norman E. Brown, 89, Warsaw, passed away Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, at 4:02 p.m. in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw. He was born Sept. 10, 1928, in Warsaw, to Roscoe and Nellie Ellis Brown. A lifetime area resident, he was formerly employed by the Oasis Club, the Elks Club and Holiday Inn, all of Warsaw, as a bartender.

Syracuse Town Council Approves Sale Of Bonds For Sewer Improvements

Rain, sewers and a change to a busy intersection were topics of discussion at the Syracuse Town Council meeting Tuesday. Town Manager Henry DeJulia asked the council to waive a second reading and approve an ordinance to finance $750,000 in 10-year bonds for maintenance and repairs to the town’s water treatment plant. The bonds go toward the estimated $1.3 million needed to pay for the projects, with the rest coming from economic development income tax funds. The council approved both requests.

In light of last week’s Florida school shooting that left 17 dead, Warsaw Community Schools Chief Academic Officer David Robertson gave the school board an update on school safety and security Monday.

Irene Gaynelle Davis

Irene Gaynelle Davis, 99, Warsaw, passed away at 1:08 p.m. Feb. 18, 2018, in Lake City Place, Warsaw. She was born Oct. 6, 1918, to Ernest and Hazel Ellis Shively, in Burket. Irene was a 1937 graduate of Claypool High School. On Dec. 23, 1939, Irene married Roy Max Davis in Indianapolis. They had three children during their 53-year marriage. Irene was a housewife during the years that her children were in school. Irene and Max then moved to Warsaw in 1976. She was employed by Warsaw Community Schools as a cook for 10 years before her retirement.

June ‘Carol’ Nice

June “Carol” Nice, 78, New Paris, formerly of Warsaw, passed away at 6 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Wakarusa. She was born June 15, 1939, in Plymouth, to Sylvester Ivan and Hazel Laura Carlow Aman. Carol was a former resident of Lakeville; Gautier, Miss.; Warsaw; and New Paris. She was united in marriage to Dennis Nice in Plymouth in 1992. She served as a nurse for St. Joseph Hospital, Plymouth, and Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, retiring in 2011. She enjoyed cross-stitching and needlework, was a gardener, and loved working outdoors and traveling.
