- Supports Daniels - Supports Sanders - Abstain From Sex Supports Daniels Editor, Times-Union: There is a need for change in the leadership of the State of Indiana. If we look for a moment at our home of Kosciusko County, and then look beyond its borders to the other communities that comprise our great state, we will see a foundation for reform and a basis for rethinking the governmental strategies for putting Indiana in a positive position relative to other states.

- Think About Others - Silver Lake Thanks - Walking Papers - Importance Of Voting - Class Hoops Think About Others Editor, Times-Union: Hello, my name is Rhonda and I am writing to you in a little town called Mentone and I have been searching for a job since the beginning of June and people say don't give up hope. But they don't know how it is not to have a job.I have gone all over the towns to find a job, any job, but they all tell me I'm not good enough for the job. What I think it has do with is I'm not a man and they would rather hire a man instead of a woman. This is a cruel and mean world that no one cares about anyone any more all they are really after is money and they don't care how they get it.

- Opposition To War - Buffoonery Opposition To War Editor, Times-Union: I have carefully observed and studied the dialogue in your column over the past 16 months on the subject of Iraq.It is understandable why those who oppose this military action are reluctant to speak out.The fairly scathing attacks they suffer from your regular contributors certainly puts a chill on any good-faith debate. The irony is that we are now told that it was for the cause of democracy and freedom that Iraq was attacked. It seems the principles of democracy and free speech escape some locally.

- Tax Policy - Chiropractic Concerns - Akron Says Thanks Tax Policy Editor, Times-Union: Benjamin Franklin once wrote, "Our constitution is in actual operation; everything appears to promise that it will last, but in this world nothing is certain but death and taxes."When dealing with the possibility of a budget shortfall, around the General Assembly one hears talk of "tax restructuring with revenue enhancement."While this term sounds nice enough, it means that Franklin was right - taxes are, indeed, certain.

- King George - Lesson Learned - No Spell Check - Thanks To Warsaw PD King George Editor, Times-Union: Mr.Hackworth: I pondered whether to spend 37 cents to respond to your shallow, belittling comments, but your words were so reminiscent of the recent campaign that I couldn't resist.Besides I'm not working a 40-hour week in this booming Bush economy so I have extra time on my hands.

Kindy Inducted Today

BY JEFF HOLSINGER, Times-Union Sports Writer Walt Kindy coached three years at Beaver Dam, but what a three years those were. He guided Beaver Dam to winning records and sectional titles every season. He led Beaver Dam to two regional championships and two trips to the state finals, the 1932-33 and 1933-34 seasons. He introduced the 3-2 zone defense to the area. Kindy died of cancer in 1984, but he will be inducted in the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame posthumously this evening. The ceremony will be held at the Westin Hotel in Indianapolis.Fourteen people will be inducted. "He'd like this pretty good," says Gene Marshall, a forward who played on both teams that went to the state finals."It's just too bad he couldn't make it." He won't, but widow Dorthea and their two boys will, along with former players Marshall and Charles "Chick" Kern.

Animal Welfare Has To Be About The Animals

Circumstances surrounding the Kosciusko Animal Shelter are unfortunate. First of all, I want to make it clear that at the Gerard house, we like animals. We own a couple dogs. One is a Norwegian elkhound. The other is a Yorkshire terrier.(Have you ever heard that you don't really own a Yorkie, a Yorkie owns you? It's true.) Over the years, we've had cats, hamsters, a rabbit or two, guinea pigs, hermit crabs and fish.So I am no stranger to the bond between pets and their owners. That's why I fully understand that all those involved in the issue surrounding the shelter are dedicated and well-meaning. But for whatever reason, some folks have gotten a little out of control. I am referring to a letter to the editor that appeared in this newspaper this week. The letter writers all but accused the board of directors of the now-disbanded Humane Society of lining their pockets with money meant to go to animals.
