Zoning Change Opposed By Residents Of Oakland Hills

Eight residents and the Town of North Webster filed remonstrance letters with the Kosciusko County Area Plan Commission to block a proposed zoning change in the Oakland Hills subdivision south of the town.

Linda K. Geiger

Linda K. Geiger, 77, Akron, left us too soon after passing away on Feb. 21, 2018, at her daughter’s home in Fishers due to complications with lung cancer. She joins her loving husband, Roland “Bud” Geiger, who preceded her in death on Nov. 1, 2002. Linda was born Jan. 30, 1941, in Rochester, to Willis E. and Mary E. Meinert Nelson. She was one of four children and the only daughter. Linda and Bud were married on Aug. 26, 1963. As Linda often said, she and Bud started life with $13, a suitcase and a duffel bag.

Local Retired Band Director And Former Student Share The Stage at Carnegie Hall

Retired Grace College and Warsaw Community High School band director Marty Becker will be a guest conductor next week at Carnegie Hall. Becker was asked by one of his former students, Leif Hall, to share this experience.  Hall graduated from WCHS in 1994 and started in band on trumpet under Becker’s mentorship in the fifth grade. Hall also came back to Warsaw Schools and taught middle school band for a couple of years.   Becker said, “There is no greater honor or reward in teaching than seeing a former student achieve success. I am so proud of Leif and all he is accomplishing with his outstanding band program in Houston. I am thrilled and honored that I get to share this experience with my former student.”

Marvin Edward Engbrecht

Marvin Edward Engbrecht, 95, Nappanee, died March 4, 2018. He was born Nov. 20, 1922, near Dolton, S.D., to David H. and Tena Duerksen Engbrecht. On Dec. 25, 1942, he married Anne Viola Tschetter; she preceded him in death after 74 years of marriage.


Evelyn Godeke Rettinger

Evelyn Godeke Rettinger was born July 7, 1936, in Elberfeld, to William and Margaret Godeke. She passed away Jan. 16, 2018, at Community Hospital, Bremen. Evelyn married Herman Charles Rettinger on March 16, 1957, at Zoar United Church of Christ, Elberfeld. The two met through Indiana 4-H Congress activities. Evelyn graduated from Millersburg High School in Warrick County, then from Purdue University in 1959 with a degree in home economics.

Dorcas A. Kipker

Dorcas A. Kipker, 84, Warsaw, passed away at 3:35 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2018, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw. She was born Dec. 7, 1933, in Warsaw, to Roger and Bessie Snellenberger McConnell. On April 8, 1955, in Warsaw, she was united in marriage to Elzin A. Kipker, who preceded her on Dec. 11, 2016.

Robert E. ‘Bob’ Hull

Robert E. “Bob” Hull, 97, the youngest child of Ernest and Lydia Hull of Warsaw, passed away Feb. 22, 2018, at home surrounded by his family. Bob served in the Marine Corps in World War II in Australia, the North Somalia Islands and the Pacific area for four years; and was a lifetime member of Post 49, Warsaw.
