Top-Ranked Panthers Cruise To Win Over Warsaw

NorthWood’s ranked No. 1 in Class 3A, and if it were possible for the Panthers to ascend even higher, Warsaw might not object. Led by junior guard Cade Brenner’s 31-point, nine-rebound, three-assist, three-steal performance, host NorthWood sailed past the Tigers 70-51 in boys high school basketball Friday night before a near-capacity crowd estimated at 3,500.

Wawasee Girls Show Defensive Intensity In Loss At Westview

Wawasee displayed plenty of intensity — especially on the defensive end of the court — in falling 37-36 in girls basketball Friday at Westview. The visitors led 34-28 with 2:22 to play following a pair of free throws by Aubrey Schmeltz and were still up 36-31 with 30.2 seconds to go after Aubrey Kuhn made one free throw then saw Westview rally for a home victory.

The boys state basketball tournament has been whittled down to 64 teams. There are 16 in each of the four classes. After Saturday, those 16 will become four, and those four will be one win of a trip to the state finals in Indianapolis.
