Developer Wants County To Relocate CR 700S

Accidents at the Claypool overpass, intersection of CR 700S and Ind.15, are common due to bad visibility at the intersection. Tuesday, Kosciusko County Highway Superintendent and Engineer Rob Ladson told the county commissioners the owner of property to the northeast of the intersection is planning to develop his property and wants the development to have access to Ind.15.The developer wants to move CR 700S to the north, which will solve the visibility problem, Ladson said. The developer has contacted the state for cooperation.Ladson drafted a letter for the commissioners to send to the state to support the developer's efforts. "This is all preliminary," Ladson said."It hasn't been through Area Plan yet. It's just been rezoned." He said stoplights would not be ideal at the intersection because they would not keep traffic moving.Moving the intersection would improve visibility."...We can definitely have a win-win situation here," said Ladson.

Request To Establish Church Granted By Warsaw BZA

Alfred Sanchez's request to establish a church at 720 McClellan St., a commerical district, was approved by the Warsaw Board of Zoning Appeals Monday. Sanchez, minister of Inglesia Betesda Church, said through an interpreter, his son Alfred Sanchez Jr., that the church has 25 members and would meet Sundays and Thursdays. One of the board's considerations is the number of parking spaces available for any facility. With a ratio of one space per four parishioners, the property has plenty of parking slots. There are 10 spaces available in front of the former Wonder store and another 10 available on the north side. These are to be clearly marked as part of the exception. The building, approximately 22,000 square feet, is surrounded by a variety of zoning: commercial to the north and south, residential to the east and industrial to the west.

Landowner Withdraws Rezoning Petition

A remonstrated petition by James Evans to rezone 40.71 acres from an agricultural district to a residential district was withdrawn from consideration before the Kosciusko County Commissioners Tuesday, sending remonstrators home before the meeting even began. It was one of six petitions that were to be presented before the commissioners. The property is on the north side of CR 1000N and approximately 500 to 600 feet east of Ind.13. The petition was denied by a vote of 5 to 2 by the Kosciusko County Area Plan Commission three weeks ago.The plan commission is a recommending board to the county commissioners. The property is across from Wawasee Middle School and the proposed development was for 76 lots. A petition by Richard L.Gilberts to rezone ground from an agricultural district to an industrial II district was unanimously denied. The property is on the east side of Kyle Road and 1,320 feet south of CR 250N in Tippecanoe Township.

Wawasee Eyes $25 Million Budget For '99

SYRACUSE - Wawasee School board members looked over the proposed 1999 school budget last night. Director of finance Don Huber told the board the budget would be advertised Aug.19 and Aug.26. He also told the board there would be a public hearing on the proposed budget Sept.1 and that the budget could be adopted at the Sept.15 meeting. Wawasee is expected to advertise a total budget of $25,038,759 for 1999. The current tax rate for Wawasee schools is $4.8027 per $100 of assessed valuation.Based on that rate, Wawasee collected approximately $10.7 million in property taxes. After the budget is advertised, the state evaluates the district's assessed valuation and computes the tax rate. Superintendent Mark Stock passed out copies of board goals for 1998-99. He asked board members to study them and said the goals will be up for approval at the next board meeting.
