Syracuse Man Pleads Guilty In Pizza Hut Robbery

A second man involved in the New Year's Eve robbery of Syracuse Pizza Hut pleaded guilty in Kosciusko Superior Court 1 Tuesday. Robert Lafollette, 18, of Syracuse, pleaded guilty to charges of criminal confinement and armed robbery, both class B felonies, and faces up to 40 years in prison. Lafollette reportedly admitted to being the gunman during the incident, where he and two other men forced nine Pizza Hut employees into a walk-in cooler while they stole $3,400 from the cash registers. Nicholas Ashkins, 17, of South Whitley, one of the three involved, pleaded guilty to the same charges in late April.He is scheduled for sentencing Thursday. The last man allegedly involved, Ryan Kennelley, 17, Syracuse, plans to stand trial in November.He also was charged with criminal confinement and armed robbery.

Rally Is Today In Central Park

Today's rally for the troops in Warsaw's Central Park will begin at 10 a.m.with an official program beginning at 11 a.m., according to organizer Shanna Coon. The American Legion Color Guard, speakers, including Warsaw Mayor Ernie Wiggins, and songs will be shared. Coon said the master of ceremonies is Dave Halyaman. At 5 p.m.there will be a patriotic spirit contest with a candlelight memorial for the late Lance Cpl.David Fribley. The National Guard wives support group will be accepting items for care packages during the day and proceeds from food sales and bumper stickers sales will go to the USO. Coon has friends serving the military in Iraq.Co-organizers Melinda Bartley and Cherish Heckaman, whose brother, Josh, is a U.S.Marine in Iraq, plan to make the event a fund-raiser for the USO Care Package Fund, too. Freezing Rain Douses County

Freezing rain weighed heavy on power lines Friday night, causing scattered power outages throughout Kosciusko County. REMC crews were out working to restore power, a large portion of which occurred in the Leesburg area, after a storm moved into the area early Friday evening.In at least one instance, ice accumulated on a tree, causing it to fall and taking power lines with it. The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department reported that increasing accidents calls were beginning to come in about 11 p.m., with the roadways considered slick and hazardous. However, no event cancellations for today were reported by midnight.Choir members from several local schools are scheduled to travel to Fort Wayne this morning to perform in the annual FAME Festival.Concerned parents were watching the weather last night and should tune into WRSW-AM and FM for information from school officials in the event plans change.

Valley OKs Wastewater Bid Outline

AKRON -ÊDuring a brief special session Monday night, the Tippecanoe Valley School Board approved an outline for bids for its recently approved wastewater treatment plant. The first advertisement of notice to bidders will run Thursday, and the second will run April 6. Bids for the project, which is estimated to cost around $500,000, will be opened April 25. Bids will be awarded May 8 at the regular school board meeting. Mark Sullivan, of Common Wealth Engineering, submitted the designs for the project to the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, which reviewed the plans before the bids were prepared. The waste water treatment plant will serve Tippecanoe Valley High School and Tippecanoe Valley Middle School. Tippecanoe Valley School Board members are Hal Hoffman, Rod Eaton, Mark Wise, Bryan Murphy and David O'Brien, president.Superintendent is Dr.Daniel V.Kramer.

Warsaw Names Top Grads For 2000

Steve Slaughter is the valedictorian and Adrienne Wilka is the salutatorian of Warsaw Community High School's class of 2000. Slaughter, the son of George and Anne Slaughter, will graduate from WCHS with a grade point average - on a 12.0 scale - of 13.7.He plans to attend the U.S.Air Force Academy, where he will major in behavioral science. His high school activities include student council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Kosciusko Endowment Youth Services, National Honor Society, varsity tennis, Mathletes and the Continental Math League. Wilka, the daughter of Don and Lori Wilka, Warsaw, will graduate with a GPA of 13.3.She will attend Ball State University and major in architecture. She has been a member of National Honor Society, Students Against Drunk Driving, Business Professionals of America and Junior Octagon.She participated in volleyball for two years.

SYRACUSE - Jon Dingeldein, son of Mark and Rebecca Dingeldein, has been named valedictorian and Kyle Lantz, son of Mark and Cindi Lantz, salutatorian by Wawasee High School. WHS Class of 2003 will graduate at 7 p.m.May 30 in the school gymnasium. Dingeldein, North CR 320W, Milford, is the student body president and a member of the student council.He is a member of FBA, Key Club, FCA, National Honor Society and is a two-year member of the state's top Academic Super Bowl team. Dingeldein is a member of the swim and baseball teams. Lantz, North Camelot Trail, Milford, is a National Honor Society member and Wawasee Academic Hall of Famer.He also participates in Kosciusko Endowment Youth Services and is an Impact leader. Lantz played football and is a four-year WHS basketball and baseball team member. Both plan to attend Taylor University.
