Of the properties damaged, four single-family homes were totaled; 23 had major damage and 34 had minor damage. No mobile homes were totaled, but 10 had major damage and 65 mobile homes had minor damage. The count includes the homes the Red Cross disaster assessment teams found along the path of the tornadoes, from Mentone to North Webster and in some isolated areas such as Barbee Lakes. A disaster shelter was opened at the Center Lake Pavilion Wednesday but Wilkinson said it was closed after three hours because storm victims did not take advantage of the shelter. He said some of those affected by the storms preferred to stay at their damaged residences or with relatives. Leesburg Looks At Ways To Fund Sewer System

Leesburg - Town officials are keeping their options open in the ongoing search for money to fund construction of a sewer system. Officials said they expect to learn by May whether they can qualify for grant money that is intended for residents with moderate income levels. A survey by Ball State University that assesses the income levels of residents could be under way within a few weeks, said town council president Bob Cleveland. The only information Ball State will give is the cumulative income level, Cleveland said.Individual income levels will not be released. If the town qualifies, the grant could provide upward of $500,000 through the department of commerce. The town is also interested in a handful of other state and federal money, Cleveland said. Leesburg has already been informed it could use $200,000 from the Build Indiana Fund.Another source of money is a state revolving loan fund that could yield upward of $1 million with a low interest rate.

Waubee Lake Park Security Issues Discussed

MILFORD - Aside from budget matters Monday, the Milford Town Council discussed concerns about security and safety at Waubee Lake Park. "We need to have lifeguards and if we don't, we need to have a big sign" saying that people swim at their own risk, said councilman Robert Phillips. If there are no lifeguards on duty, councilman Douglas Ruch asked if there was "any thought to putting up a locked rope or chains to close off the beach? They'd still have access to the park." Phillips said he saw no problem with people having access to the beach without lifeguards there if they realize they're swimming at their own risk. Hobbs said beach and park regulations need to be posted clearly. He said he didn't think they've had many problems with people being at the beach after it's closed.
