Tippecanoe Valley Community Mental Health Task Force To Host 'Mental Health First Aid'

AKRON – The Tippecanoe Valley Community Mental Health Task Force will host the first “Mental Health First Aid” training program in the Akron/Mentone area with plans to train up to 30 local citizens in how to improve mental health literacy – helping participants identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness.

Lake City Bank Announces Acquisition Of 6 Key Bank Branches

Lake City Bank has announced acquisition of six branch offices that will allow it to expand into two new markets. LCB president Doug Grant announced today an agreement to purchase six branch offices of KeyBank National Association. The offices are located in Columbia City, Kendallville, Ligonier, Logansport, Medaryville and Rochester. Logansport and Medaryville are new markets for Lake City Bank. With the purchase, Lake City Bank will add about $70 million in deposits.The sale is subject to approval by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. Lake City Bank is a subsidiary of Lakeland Financial Corporation, which is a $700 million banking organization.

Milford Day Care Center Hosts Garage Sale

MILFORD - New Begin-nings Child Care of Milford will host a massive garage sale Friday in hopes of raising more money needed to match a state grant. Organizers expect about 45 families to participate by bringing items to the sale, which will be 7 a.m.to 5 p.m.Friday at the child care center at 109 W.Catherine St., Milford. The organization has raised about $65,000 through fund-raisers.The money will be used to match a state grant from the Indiana Department of Commerce.New Beginnings has applied twice for financial support, but was turned down for lack of matching money. The organization plans to apply again, said a spokesman.

'Red Light' Bill Before State Lawmakers Again

Known as the red light camera bill, SB3 has been prepared by State Sen.Kent Adams (R-Warsaw) for a hearing before the Transportation and Homeland Security committee tomorrow. This is the third year Adams has sponsored the legislation, which allows local communities to institute their own ordinances regarding automated traffic law enforcement systems installation at designated intersections. To date, Sen.Tom Wyss (R-Fort Wayne), chairman of the Transportation and Homeland Security committee, has been added as co-author along with Sen.Charles "Bud" Meeks (R-Leo). Indiana lists 157 deaths attributed to red light running from 1992 through 1998, an average of 26 per year.

DePuy Announces Acquisition

DePuy Inc.has taken steps toward acquiring a French manufacturer of orthopedic products. The Warsaw-based company announced today an agreement in which it will purchase 1.9 million shares of Landanger-Camus.The agreement represents 89 percent of the company's shares and is valued at $144 million, according to DePuy. The purchase is subject to a number of provisions and approval by the French Stock Exchange.

Manchester School Board Clarification

In Wednesday’s edition, a story titled (in the print edition) “Manchester School Board Loses Schilling, Appoints Sharfman To Park Board” mistakenly gave the impression that Brian Schilling left the school board. He did not, and he is still the school board president. Schilling only stepped down from the town park board.
