Valley Wins First Regional Title

WEST LAFAYETTE - After Tippecanoe Valley's boys basketball team's Class 3A regional championship game at West Lafayette Wednesday night, 6-foot-5 Viking senior center Craig Kuhn said the injury to his right knee that kept him out for the first half of the season was in the back of his mind. If he was truly thinking about it, the only way the few West Lafayette fans in attendance could tell was by his bulky, black brace. Kuhn scored seven of Valley's 16 fourth-quarter points as the Vikings topped the Red Devils 47-43 for their first regional title in school history.

Veteran Viking Golfers Eye Big Season

With seven straight road matches to start the season, the Tippecanoe Valley Vikings are going to get pretty comfortable golfing away from home. But according to head coach Roger Moriarty, it shouldn't matter much.Because this team is going to be good.Very good. "I think that they're going to be awful tough," Moriarty said."There's a nice blend of experience there, and I can't see us losing a whole lot of matches this year." Valley returns four starters from last year's 10-6 team.To fill the holes left by two graduated players, Moriarty will choose from a number of players that competed on the Viking junior varsity squad that went 12-4. Senior Darren Parker is the top returning player for Valley.Following him will be senior Justin Leslie and a pair of juniors, Aaron Martin and Jake Recoui.

Wining The Cultural War

Once in a while I read something and say to myself, "I wish I had written that." What follows is one of those things.A friend of mine e-mailed it to me.It was quite lengthy, so I did some editing.Portions are omitted where you see the ellipses. It is still long, but I think it is pretty compelling. It is a speech by Charlton Heston, delivered Feb.16 to the student body at Harvard Law School. It's called "Winning The Cultural War." I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

WCHS Fills Out Coaching Roster

&nbsp "What I did on my summer vacation" - by Warsaw Community High School athletic director Dave Fulkerson. &nbsp It would go something like this, mow the lawn, watch TV and, oh yeah, hire four new head coaches, an assistant athletic director and several assistant coaches. &nbsp While other high school personel had the luxury of taking the summer off, Fulkerson did not.A second summer of having to find coaches to fill several vacancies didn't seem to bother Fulkerson, who took it as a challenge to fill the spots with the best candidates possible. &nbsp Although some of the coaches have already started in their new positions, they were officially brought into the WCHS coaching fraternity Monday by the school board. &nbsp Hired were Jamie Byron as the new volleyball coach; Jeff Grose as the new boys' cross country coach; Tony Boley as the new wrestling coach; Troy Akers as the new boys' track coach; and Rachel Etherington as the new assistant athletic director.
