County hears report on work of school resource officers

When the Kosciusko County commissioners approve county departments applying for and receiving grants, the commissioners don't always get to see or hear how the grants have helped the county. Tuesday, Kosciusko County Sheriff Aaron Rovenstine gave the commissioners a brief presentation on how the COPS school resource officer grant helps not only the local community, but also the schools and students. Rovenstine said two years ago, the grants for school resource officers at Warsaw and Wawasee high schools were started.Since then, "it's been a very successful program," he said. This year, Don McCune became the school resource officer at Tippecanoe Valley High School.Rocky Goshert, Wawasee school resource officer, began at Wawasee at the end of last year.

Does this mean that the problem has been resolved? Or, could it be that our politicians know that immigration is a hot topic, which they cannot fix, and choose purposely to avoid the issue all together? Why? Two Seniors Receive Local Scholarships

Two Kosciusko County high school seniors learned Wednesday that they will receive "full-ride" scholarships starting next year to the colleges of their choice. Stephanie Campbell, a senior at Warsaw Community High School; and Michelle Lamb, a senior at Wawasee High School, are this year's recipients of Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships, awarded through the Kosciusko County Foundation. The scholarships pay full tuition and required fees, plus an allocation for books and required equipment - for four years - to any Indiana public or private university, said Suzanne Light, director of the foundation. Light notified the students and their families Wednesday evening by personally delivering bouquets of balloons, mock checks and congratulatory letters to their houses.

Jesse and Beulah Cox Scholarships were awarded to 63 first-year and returning students at Indiana University, including the first recipients of Cox Engagement, Access and Exploratory scholarships, new awards that were created this year.
