County Transfers Funds For Computer Equipment

Transfers, additional appropriations and salary ordinance amendments were the order of business Thursday at the Kosciusko County Council meeting. The biggest request for transfer of funds was made by the Kosciusko County Commissioners.They requested a transfer of $60,000 from the Geographical Imaging System account to the computer equipment account. County Administrator Ron Robinson told the council they have plenty of money in the GIS account.However, with changes at the Justice Building and courthouse, they are having a shortfall for computer equipment.The transfer was approved. A transfer of $500 for County Recorder Lashawn Brumfield from equipment to per diem meetings was approved.

Harold Hile

MENTONE – Harold O. Hile, 82, rural Mentone, died the morning of Jan. 31, 2017, at his residence. He was born Nov. 25, 1934, in Warsaw, to Harold A. and Violet Jones Hile. He married Bonnie Kay Kindig on June 17, 1962, in Warsaw; she survives. He retired from Zimmer,  Warsaw, in 1998. He also was in the automobile sales for Bledsoe Buick and Pontiac of Warsaw for 20 years.

Dana To Sell Syracuse Plant

SYRACUSE - Dana Corp.recently announced that it would sell its Syracuse plant as part of its overall restructuring plans to consolidate or close 30 plants.Syracuse was one of only two plants designated to be sold in the Traction Technologies Group (previously the Axle Division). Local company officials are Greg Kirkpatrick, plant manager, and Phil Lund, human resource manager.According to Lund, "The plant has been put up for sale, however there are no potential buyers at this time.No particular time frame has been stipulated and we're operating business as usual." Due to the economy, the Syracuse plant has gone from 650 employees in October 2000 to 360 employees this month.Twenty-one years ago, during a similar period of decline, the Weatherhead plant was bought by Dana, and the business survived as an axle facility.Lund is hopeful they will be able to sell to a buyer who will keep the people and non-core businesses and sell products back to Dana.
