10 Years Ago What exactly would tempt someone to arise at 5:30 am., grab onto a 75-foot length of kevlar-reinforced rope, jump into the lake wearing nothing but a wet suit and yell, "Hit it!?" The answer? Barefoot water skiing. On any given calm morning on Tippecanoe Lake one might find Bob Ragland, a captain with American Airlines; Patrick Pfefferkorn, a real estate agent for Century 21; and Jon Mark; an optometrist at Grossnickle Eye Center; exhibiting their idea of recreation. The three have become quite adept at deepwater front and back starts, one-foot fronts and backs and other advanced footinÕ techniques. 25 Years Ago At least six Warsaw Community Softball League teams will be going on to national or world series tournaments in various divisions for the National Softball Association. Video World, Warsaw Moose, JR's Polishing and Pinky's 76 will be in the NSA Class D Nationals at Lexington, Ky., Aug. 30-Sept. 1. On the same Labor Day weekend, Lee Hartle Electric will be in Indianapolis, while Champs will be the local representative in the Class B World Series in St. Louis. 50 Years Ago Miss Donna Mantle, 20, who recently completed her first year of nurse's training at a hospital in Bismarck, N.D., has been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roswell Robbins, Sidney. They'll take her back to Bismarck where she resumes her training. A graduate of Sidney High School, Donna worked two years at the Murphy Medical Center. She has a 40 and 8 scholarship. 75 Years Ago Mr. and Mrs. Bert Sellers have returned from a weekÕs auto trip of 2,000 miles, covering 11 states. They attended the Texas Centennial at Dallas, stopping en route at St. Louis and returning through Birmingham, Ala. They note extensive drought damage in Oklahoma, but found corn good in many southern states. This week they leave on a northern trip through Michigan and into Canada.

Lady Lancers Fall In OT to Lady Trojans, 89-80

WINONA LAKE – Grace College’s  women’s basketball team was 30 seconds away from its first league victory on Wednesday.But Taylor came back to force overtime, ultimately winning 89-80 at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center.The loss for the Lady Lancers (5-18, 0-11 Crossroads League) came despite three players having career-best performances.

Annexation Approved

The Warsaw Plan Commission Monday approved the annexation of two parcels of land into the city. Phase Two of the Corridor Drive annexation was approved, bringing an additional 50 acres into the city.The area, north of U.S.30 and east of CR 250E, is owned by Bill Bibler and will be zoned I-2, light industrial. The commission also approved the annexation of Center Center, at the intersection of U.S.30 and East Center Street.The complex will be zoned C-3, arterial commerical.

Marriage, With Interest

Greg Horton and Grodonell Bradley (embracing) tied the knot Friday morning in the lobby of Lake City Bank. Bradley, a three-year employee at Lake City, had planned to make a trip to the Justice Building for the ceremony. But on Wednesday night at a bridal shower her co-workers convinced her that the lobby of the bank would be just the place. Kosciusko County Clerk Marsha McSherry was happy to accommodate them. Pierceton Festivities

More than 130 classic cars invaded Pierceton Friday as part of Pierceton Days festivities. The first Pierceton Cruise-In offered awards in 15 categories for classic car enthusiasts. The Sap Is Running

Irvin Lemler pours sap collected from maple trees into a holding tank, later to be made into syrup. He said it's been a good year so far for making syrup. Lemler has 2,500 buckets out now and plans to put out 1,000 more this afternoon. He usually has 4,000 to 5,000 buckets out each year. Furness New Senior VP At Bristol-Myers

Terence N.Furness, president of Zimmer, has been named senior vice president of strategic planning for Bristol-Myers Squibb Medical Devices Group as of May 1, Zimmer announced Tuesday. Temporarily assuming Furness' duties will be Peter R.Dolan, who is president of Mead Johnson and president of Bristol-Myers Squibb Nutritionals and Medical Devices Group.

Leesburg Schedules Town Garage Sale For June 24

LEESBURG -ÊLeesburg town board announces the town's annual garage sale will be June 24. Memorial Day parade plans are being made.Contact people for the parade are Sue Charlton, Sandra Allen and Marilyn Hartman. Grass clippings are not to be discharged from lawn mowers into the streets and cars are not to be parked in tree lawns. Trash containers should be removed from the curb after trash is picked up.

Hamby Top Student At Lighthouse

Jamie Hamby was named valedictorian of Lighthouse Christian Academy's class of 2001. Hamby, the daughter of Donnie and Derinda Hamby, graduates with a grade point average of 3.33.During her high school years she was a four-year starter in volleyball and was involved with the yearbook. She plans to attend IPFW and major in business and photography. Lighthouse Christian Academy's commencement is scheduled for 3 p.m.May 20 at the Lighthouse Ministries Church.

City To Vote On Meijer Petition

The Warsaw City Council will decide tonight whether or not to approve Meijer's rezoning request. Meijer has requested to rezone 41.65 acres to C5 (special commercial) to build a store at 900 Husky Trail, along Patterson Road. The Warsaw Plan Commission unanimously recommended April 10 that the council deny the petition. A final decision on the rezoning issue will be made at 7 p.m.tonight in the old courtroom at the Kosciusko County Courthouse.

Benefit Set For Stamper

A benefit has been planned to raise money for Teal Stamper who needs a heart transplant. The benefit will be Aug. 27 at 11 a.m. and is being called “Day At The Lake For St. Jude’s.” It will be at the fairgrounds at the Burket Building. There will be a bake sale and items sold include cotton candy, hot dogs, chili cheese dogs, chili dogs, walking tacos, sno cones, and taco salads.

Loyd J. Wadkins, 60, Silver Lake, died at 7:45 a.m. Sept. 28, 2016, at St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne. His parents were Nero and Minerva Robinson Wadkins. On June 20, 1980, in Elwood, he married Kathryn Stage, who survives in Silver Lake. No services are planned.
