MENTONE - After reviewing a request from town employees for compensation of unpaid wages, the Mentone Town Council voted Monday to pay more than $10,000 to three employees. Library Board Considers Adjusting Hours

The Warsaw Community Public Library Board, acting on the recommendation of library director Ann Zydek, gave its authorization to modify the hours of operation. Zydek said a recent utilization study showed more hours were needed early in the week and less were needed near the weekend. The proposed new hours will be 9 a.m to 9 p.m.Monday and Tuesday; 9 a.m.to 8 p.m.Wednesday through Thursday; and 9 a.m.to 6 p.m.Friday and Saturday. "Our records show that early in the week is when we have our heaviest usage," Zydek said."This revised schedule will allow us to have a majority of our staff here at the times of our heaviest usage, without having a lot of split shifts," she said. Zydek added the revised hours do not include any Sunday hours because the library's budget cannot support the additional hours. "We really need to have public input on the desire for Sunday hours and a willingness to pay for the additional costs," she said.

Old Webster School Desks Find New Homes In Romania

NORTH WEBSTER - The school-full of student desks in the old elementary school have found a new home a continent away in Vurpar, Transylvania, Romania. Lions Club member Chuck Hapner introduced Jim Sack and Simon Dragan to town council members Wednesday. Sack, of Fort Wayne, and Dragan, of South Whitley, formerly of Romania, operate the Vurpar Project, an organization designed to bring the Eastern European country into modern times. Hapner said local Lions traveled to Romania bringing eyeglasses, and found no medical facilities for the people. Sacks and Dragan want any equipment not being used by the town in the community center. "Anything they can get in Romania will help," he said. After 50 years under a communist government, Sack said, Romanian citizens aren't sure how to move forward in a democracy after being told what to do for so long. Dragan buys equipment and ships it back to his former country.

Apology Time for President Obama

His campaign’s defamatory broadsides against Mitt Romney are “entirely appropriate,” says President Barack Obama, a former community organizer whose work did so little good for the South Side of Chicago that it is now one of the more murderous neighborhoods in America. Play the game he’s playing and you’d say he is to blame for the gang killings. Appropriate?
