Tigers Look To Follow Up On Historically Successful Run

The Warsaw Tiger football team established many milestones on offense (rushing in particular) and special teams during the 2019 season. The team made history with its first sectional title further sweetened by beating perennial power Penn 35-18, another first for the program. Motorcades, painted business windows, signs and motivational notes and treats were in order in their post-season journey, until ending the season 9-3 in a 42-28 regional loss to Merrillville. However, this year the Tigers collectively are humble, and thankful to be playing high school football amid a global pandemic.

Consider that 93% of the Vikings’ rushing yards last season were compiled by players who have since graduated, as well as 99% of the passing yards — nearly all those in the person of versatile two-year starter Tanner Trippiedi — and 71% of the receiving yards. Over on the other side of the ball, six of the top seven tacklers have departed. Gone largely within that group are 26 of the 29 takeaways that the Valley defense racked up and 20 of the team’s 23 sacks.

Warrior Coach Sees Experience, Improvement In Team

Jon Reutebuch looks to three main reasons he sees for improvement in his Wawasee High School football team in his second season as head coach. “We’re excited,” says Reutebuch, who takes his IHSAA Class 4A Warriors into the 2020 season open Friday at Lakeland in LaGrange. “We feel like we have improved line depth and play. That should help us improve on our record from last year (Wawasee went 2-8 overall and 1-6 in the Northern Lakes Conference in 2019).
