American Legion 258 To Sponsor Tenderloin Basket Carry-Out

PIERCETON – The American Legion Auxiliary Unit #258 of Pierceton will sponsor a tenderloin basket carry-out. drive in the back of the Legion.

Breading's Plans Fund-Raiser

Breading's Cigar Store, East Center Street, Warsaw, is planning its annual fund-raiser for Friday. Proprietor Burleigh Burgh says funds raised will be donated to the Alexandria K.Moody fund. Moody is the 3-1/2-year-old Warsaw girl who is scheduled to undergo brain surgery at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore sometime after the first of the year. Doctors will remove a portion of the left side of Moody's brain because of seizures caused by cerebral palsy and an abnormal growth of brain cells. Free coffee and rolls will be served by Breading's personnel and donations will be received from 5 a.m.to noon Friday.

City To Continue Large Retail Zoning Discussion

Warsaw City Council tonight will continue discussion on an ordinance defining where large retail sales establishments can be located in the city.

Mutual Federal Plans Conversion To Public Ownership

Mutual Federal Savings Bank has announced its board of directors has approved a plan to convert Mutual Federal to a publicly owned holding company. "The sale of the capital stock in our holding company will give our customers priority subscription rights to become stockholders and share in our future," said R.Donn Roberts, Mutual's president and chief executive officer."In addition, the sale of stock will provide additional capital strength and support expanded customer services." Roberts added the conversion from a mutual institution to a capital stock savings institution is another step in the bank's strategy to meet the financial challenges of its multiple markets.

Fireworks Planned Throughout County

Fireworks are planned at several locations in the area during the Fourth of July weekend. On Friday, fireworks will be launched beginning at 9 p.m.over Winona Lake. Saturday's schedule includes: Akron - 9 p.m. North Webster - dusk, over the lake Syracuse "Big Bang Boom" - dusk over Lake Wawasee Chapman Lake - dusk, from west side Tippecanoe Lake - 9:30 p.m., from a barge in front of Tippecanoe Country Club. On Sunday, Syracuse will have another display beginning at 8:45 p.m., with the best viewing from Lakeside Park.
