Six Cars Damaged In Parking Lot Mishap

Only property was damaged in an accident that involved a tractor-trailer and six other vehicles Monday evening in Warsaw. Around 5:39 p.m.Monday, Michael E.Dubose, 47, of Norcross, Ga., pulled into the Detroit Street Penguin Point restaurant to get something to eat.As he was driving around the back of the building in his semi, he did not realize the trailer on his vehicle caught a set of low-hanging power and electric lines. According to a police report, Dubose said he heard a loud bang and looked back to see that he was dragging the wires. The utility pole supporting the wires snapped and hit the trailer, causing extensive damage.

Pierceton Holding Fundraisers To Defray Toddler's Medical Costs

PIERCETON - Nine-month-old Jeremy Horn, son of Cheryl and Jeremy Horn, Pierceton, has battled a major illness now for the past five months. Diagnosed with a tumor on his brain, cerebral palsy and epilepsy, Jeremy will be taken back to Riley Hospital for Children in June. His father lost his job due to the trips back and forth from the Indianapolis hospital with Jeremy.Cheryl is a stay-at-home mom and the couple's oldest child, Ruthie, lives with Jeremy's mother, Ruth Horn. Pierceton will hold several benefits to aide the family Friday and Saturday.The Seniors of Pierceton will have a bake sale Friday, the American Legion Family a rummage sale Friday and Saturday upstairs at the Legion and a spaghetti dinner is set for Saturday.Costs are: ages 6 and under is $2 per plate, and cost for ages 7 and up are $6.50.

Lightning Strikes Radio Tower

Lightning struck the transmission tower of radio station Q101, WLZQ-FM at about 8:30 a.m.Wednesday, damaging the station's main transmitter beyond repair. The tower is in southeastern Kosciusko County and its signal serves Warsaw, Columbia City, North Manchester, South Whitley and other parts of Kosciusko, Whitley, Wabash and Huntington counties. From about 8:30 a.m.to about 11 a.m., The New Q101 was off the air.Around 11 a.m., the station returned to the air, using a back-up low-power transmitter.The back-up transmitter is operating at approximately 5 percent of the station's normal power, according to The New Q101 General Manager Chris Larko.
