Syracuse OKs Zoning For Video/Pizza Store

SYRACUSE -ÊVideos and pizza go together like macaroni and cheese. Thursday, George Miller of Fort Wayne petitioned the Syracuse Board of Zoning Appeals for an exception to allow a video store and pizza store to be on one tract of ground and for a variance to permit allowing only 40 parking spots when the ordinance requires 63.The property is on the east side of Ind.13 and 820 feet north of Palm Drive at 734 Huntington St. The board approved both petitions with conditions. Miller told the board he will tear down the current building on the site to build his business. The pizza store will be carry-out or delivery only if he can get someone to lease the pizza part of the building.Miller wants to operate only the video store himself. If the pizza store doesn't materialize, Miller said, he will come back before the BZA for any other retail store. He prefers a pizza store there with the video store, however.

Planners Consider Ag Waiver, Changes In Ag II Zoning

Farmers, developers and agriculture's neighbors. That could account for most of Kosciusko County. Those groups will be affected if a new ag-release form is adopted by the Kocsiusko Planning Commission. The agricultural compatibility form for improvement permit is in use in Noble County.Their example has become the model for Kosciusko County. The form is a waiver, once signed, that is attached to a real estate deed. The waiver form could prevent lawsuits against agriculture. The waiver, if adopted, would become part of an application for an improvement permit, according to Dan Richard, Kosciusko County planning director. Once attached to the deed the waiver should prevent the owner and all future owners from raising objections to standard, responsible farming practices that often cause friction between farmers and their new neighbors.

Planners Approve Center St. Construction

Construction planned for the corner of Detroit and Center streets by First Federal Savings Bank received a favorable recommendation Monday from the Warsaw Plan Commission. Although members unanimously approved the decision, they also wanted the site plans to go before the Traffic Commission to be analyzed for potential problems regarding ingress and egress onto two of Warsaw's busier streets. The Indiana Department of Transportation suggested the bank create a parking lot that avoided the intersection of Center and Detroit, allowing drivers to use an adjacent back alley as an exit. But, because of train tracks that run beside the alleyway, this exit could become a dead end during peak hours. The Traffic Commission will study the number of cars driving through the area, and will evaluate the site plan of traffic movement that the bank has planned for its parking lot.
